Sam\'s Communication Method

It's been 2 months since Sam and I got back from Texas with his new communication method in hand. It was the first time in 4 years that we'd been able to communicate with him. I've trained his father as I've trained all the therapists and his schools. Everyone is doing this communication method with him--everyone but his dad. I asked him why he doesn't do it last night. He said: "It's just not my style. It's not the way I work. You are much better at that sort of thing." Not his style?? I told him that Sam is in the imprinting phase and if he doesn't work with him now, he likely won't be able to. He can't learn to do it when Sam is 10. He didn't respond. I said what happens if something happens to me. He changed the subject entirely.  So not only has he made no effort whatsoever to communicate with is son in the only way possible, he's also not even asked me any questions to ask Sam for him. We've waited 4 years to know what Sam thinks, now we have a way of knowing. and my husband isn't interested in putting in the time and effort it takes to know our son. And it does take time and effort. It's not easy. It seems that whenever things are hard with Sam, he doesn't want to do them. He defers everything to me, which is fine, I like working with Sam, but he needs a father too. He once said to me, "I don't know how you do it. I can only work with Sam for about 15 minutes and then I get so depressed that I have to leave." Well that certainly explains a lot about why he doesn't help me with Sam, but what's his excuse for not spending time with Jamie? And it's also not acceptable. It's not about him and his depression, it's about stepping up to the plate and being a father to your kids.
