Sadderday
Dearest,
When I woke up this morning it was snowing like hell! I know, what else is new? So I went back to sleep. After a bit I got bored with sleeping and got up. I decided to take the garbage out. About one hour later I actually managed to deposit one bag of garbage in the out side container. First I had to locate the garbage cans, that took some educated guessing and I had to call on my very poor memory. Then I had to snow blow a path to their suspected location. After, locating and managing to reach the garbage cans I then had to dig them out enough, and uncover them enough, to open them. After accomplishing that I was able to return to the house, retrieve the garbage and transport it out to the garbage cans. Just to make everything so much easier, the sky threw snowballs at me, then ice, then water. It was so much fun!
When I returned from the Post Office there was water dripping from the ceiling fixtures in the front room. I put buckets under the drips. Ice dams! I got the ladder and various implements of destruction and climbed up to spend the remainder of the day prying ice off of the roof. None of my waterproof gloves turn out to be waterproof! By about 4:30 every glove I own was soaked through, as was I, so I came in. There are wet clothes hanging everywhere in the house. I am wearing a bunch of mismatched but warm stuff that I found in the clean clothes pile. Oh, yeah well I didn’t have time to put them away. The dripping was stopped, much of the ice dam was cleared and more snow was removed from the roof. I gave the dripped water to the grapefruit tree.
Everyone is adamant that I stay off the roof! So tomorrow, weather permitting, I’m going to go up on the roof. There is no other way to reach all the damn snow up there. If the sun comes out I should have enough cleared area to work in and I should be able to clear the remainder of the roof. Eric saw the sun shining yesterday and asked Kristin “sun not sleeping?” His mother told him no today it looks like the sun is awake. To which Eric responded “Go outside now!” Well at least he’s got his priorities straight, he just doesn’t understand that the snow is deeper than he is tall.
By 2:00pm or so it was very icy out there, cars were sliding sideways past the house, so I opted to stay put and hope for a better day tomorrow. I do that a lot lately, hope that tomorrow is a better day, it won’t be but I still hope.
Till the snow stops falling, Your Ken

You can always make me laugh and I REALLY needed that tonight. Your search for the trash cans. LOL....sounded like us yesterday looking for the diesel can. I filled every regular can on the place anticipating a power outage, but never dreamed I would have to clear my driveway with the tractor. We dug through 4 foot snow drifts for an hour to find that darn can. And yes I do live on top of one of the few hills in Oklahoma and it is finally cleared! I can get to the road. 5 days! You would laugh at us poor helpless Okies in this stuff.
And be careful on that roof!!!
Angie
I love reading your entries. They made me laugh too. Although, I am sorry you have to go through so much with the bad weather. Pleae be careful on the roof, better yet, do you have to go up there? Please be careful. I am sending you a hug and hoping tomorrow is a better day :) Positive energy...can you feel the vibes? I know we are all rooting for you. Take care, Renee\'
It has to get better some day doesn\'t it? We are expecting snow again tomorrow and Monday. I do fear that we will get too much on the roof and I will have leaks also. Diane PS Watch that roof it could have slick spots.
Just curious........I know the NE has been battered this year but are the winters always almost this harsh? Been a snowbird since 1988 and I was freezing in 30-40 degree weather without snow before I came down here.... I cannot begin to imagine not going totally mad with the weather you are enduring. What in the world is an ice dam?
Spring just won\'t come soon enough!! Yes, I hope tomorrow is a better day even if it snows. Hug, Donna
Ug. Snow. Ice. Rain. Repeat... Truly the winter of my discontent. Stay off the roof Ken.
