Sadderday

Dearest,
It was –3° (-19.5C) when I woke up this morning, I crawled back under the covers until it warmed up to .5° (-17.5C). I was so reluctant to go outside that I did half of Sunday’s chores before starting today’s. We have 30” of snow on the ground and no temperature at all, what a lovely time of the year this is. I spoke with Danny at some length and he sent me an e-mail diatribe about people who can’t read. While he was quite serious he had me in hysterics. Everything he said was true but so comically said. I ordered a new release through the book club, “While Mortals Sleep”, it’s been months since I read a book. Some one seems to have taken care of the membership fees for the year, anonymously. Should I leave it be or investigate? Yes perhaps my motivation had something to do with Danny’s rant on American illiteracy. Just the other day I was conversing with someone who was shocked, shocked when I quoted Robert Burns. Anyone who cannot should not consider himself or herself literate. I think a lot of this was spurred by Michael Steele’s revelation that he is indeed illiterate, echoing through the internet. I am remembering your theory, “Women Impel Literacy”, makes me smile, yes I can do more than lift heavy objects.
I threw some dirty water out the back door today while I was cleaning, it’s pretty much frozen where it landed, on the steps. Note to self; Do not throw water out the door when the temperature is only a single digit. It’s warming up now, about 25°, snow is supposed to start soon. There appears to be an avian riot taking place at the feeders in back. The corvids have taken over; the neighborhood has gone to hell.
Just got off the phone with Tamsin, such a nice kid, I am invited to a party in the West Village, tonight! I hardly think so. Her show is apparently  doing well, she’s going to dance six hours and then go out partying. How wonderful to be young, and in that kind of shape. I can’t do anything for six hours without a nap. It was snowing when I came home from Audubon but it seems to have stopped now. We’re just supposed to get a couple of inches. Don’t know what I’m going to do tonight. I have a movie to watch, bills to pay, and an internet to fool around on. Such a high energy life I lead.
Till the next snowfall, Your Ken

Ken,
I too threw some dirty water out the back door after mopping the kitchen. oops. I won\'t be venturing out that exit any time before the spring thaw. Reading is the one activity that I seem able to concentrate on. Music - no. Television - never a fan and still not able to concentrate. Books - take me away! It seems to me I have heard of \"While Mortals Sleep\"; I\'m going to route around in husband\'s bookcase to see if I can find it. If not there is always Amazon. DS Reading Club anyone?

You know that was the one thing that I couldn\'t do for about a year after Frank died, was read. I tried many times but the words all just rattled around in my head and were Greek to me. Around month 13 I was able to pick up a book, and it made sense and I understood the story. I have read 14 ook in the last three weeks, so I guess you\'d say the fog has lifted. And to Linda\'s idea sure, why not a DS reading club. You said that Tamsin was in Wicked, great show tell her congrats one of my all time favorites. Take it easy. Hugs Jane

All I can say is burrr! With the reading, I cant say I can focus that well to do it. Maybe a few pages here and there then I have to put it down. I have read a couple grief books. I need to get my mind back in shape before school...Hugs Christi

Linda,
I get pre-release notifications from some publishers and an opportunity to order pre-press stuff. While Mortals Sleep is by Kurt Vonnegut and not due to be released until 1/25. There is an old book (2000?) with the same title by another author, Cavannaugh I think. It was kind of a poke at Abby because she never liked Vonnegut and I did.

I am trying to get back into reading also, I spent hours and hours reading when Dan was sick. Every 2 weeks he spent 7 days in the hospital for treatments and MD Anderson had a great library. I would spend most of those 7 days just reading by his bed. I have just gotten to where I can concentrate on a book again. Now school kinda blows the fun reading, so, I got the audio book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks after you suggested it on the boards. Thanks for the suggestion, it is a good one and probably one I never would have chosen on my own.
Gee, I can\'t quote Robert Burns! Unless you count \"my love is like a red, red rose\" - does that count? That was Burns right? That\'s about all I know. I do know he is a Scottish poet and I studied him in a literature class eons ago, but can\'t remember much of his work.

Ken, I read a lot. I started reading when Rodger got so sick and I think it was my escape. What is the book you ordered about? It sounds interesting. Diane

Diane,
It\'s a bunch of Kurt Vonnegut\'s unpublished short stories, Won\'t know any more until it arrives. I like Vonnegut so I should like this one.

Angie,
Aye lassie, tha counts. Don\'t take my ego-maniacal rantings too seriously, I am after all, just a guy. I did the whole dad thing, when someone would eat some leftovers that I was looking forward to, \"All right! From now on nobody is to eat anything in this house without checking with me first!\" That of course caused my daughter to convulse with laughter. She knew not to take her old man too seriously. I liked it that she was comfortable enough to laugh at me. So be comfortable, shake your head and laugh.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I:
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a the seas gang dry:

Makes me think of Abby,
Ken
