Sacred Things
It doesn't take much to overdose me on chick flicks. 2 or 3 a year are enough to get me thinking about sex change operations. Lived through more than that here in the first week of my son's fiancee being officially moved in. Fashion wedding movies, mostly. Not too surprising for a young woman planning her first wedding, I s'pose. Still, the thought of having to sit through all the hen sessions it takes to pull off a fashion wedding has me ready to head for the hills. As much as I have enjoyed crashing receptions over the years, my mother-in-law just about needed a shotgun to get me properly coiffed and fit to be a proper part of my brother-in-law's fancy wedding. I honestly wish my mother-in-law still had enough cognitive function to ply her society skills to my son's wedding. I don't even want to know the inside cluck of it all. I have a lifelong habit of leaving the room when the chicks start clucking. Peck on sweet ladies. I hear the call of the wild.
Back to school season is one of the times I steer an especially wide berth around the chick sessions. All the back-to-school conditioning collides with the fashion industry's tradition of The Fall Lineup. The newest fashions are hot topic. I am often asked how an creative tailor such as myself can find the subject so boring. What is creative about buying other people's work? That's commerce.
Still, I try not to put down fashion passion. It's just not for me. Whatever floats your boat, sweetie.
For most of my life I have been able to avoid the chick sessions with natural ease because of the all male world I have lived in, from engineering studies to the mothering of only sons. Guess it is just going to take me a while to adapt to the feminine presence in the house, romance and all.
I have a sudden hankering to go work on my car.

That part about feeling like you wanted to go work on your car made me laugh (and it takes a bit to make me laugh). Good luck with planning your son\'s wedding and all the nightmarish details ...I loved my second wedding and how we did it. First off, I don\'t like being the center of attention, so I\'m a cheap wedding to pull off. I was getting that stressed feeling about 6 weeks before our wedding so I asked my fiancee if we could just get married 6 weeks before the wedding and get it out of the way, so that even if everything went wrong on our wedding day, atleast I would find comfort in knowing that I was already married. On May 20, 2011 we went to the courthouse in dress casual clothing with our best friends and got married. To our surprise, the vows the courthouse had were not the traditional ones, they were by far the most beautiful vows I had ever heard. No one else knew (and still to this day only our best friends and my kids know). It made all the difference. All the stress disappeared and so six weeks later we got married in formal attire in front of my husband\'s parents, our best friends, and two of my chilren on the beautiful property of my in-laws. A total of 8 people plus the Justice of Peace. Friggin\' awesome! Right after the June wedding, we threw a big celebration/reception with close to 40 relatives and people we love most in the beautiful barn on the in-laws property. It was a pot luck and a really fun day. Whole wedding cost less than 3k and no stress or ridiculous costs. Good luck and hang in there!
Second the good luck. I\'m not a chick flick watcher, I\'ve known people and most everyone does that plan to the utmost imaculate detail and spend thousands to have perfection wind up divorced in 5 yrs or less. Lets hope thats not the case with your son and fiancee.
When I got married to my stbx I had always wanted an outdoors wedding in my backyard. While we were together before we married I transformed the yard from ugly to hundreds of flowers, a trellis, vines wrapped around them, we had a small gazebo, walkways, and a pond with a fountain. His participation was 10%. I asked that we plan a small wedding, few friends, kids. Nope. Not happening. He decided we were to go to the JP at the jail house, I bought a simple summer dress that was on sale @ the local next step above Walmart store, 100 degree temps and the magistrate behind the partition married us. Whole wedding cost $50.00 Mine wasn\'t exactly picture taking day.
My only wedding was barefoot in the backyard with a titty bar preacher.
I seem to have noticed that the grander the wedding, the more bitter the divorce.
Butt...
It is not my wedding.
