Running with PEs

I've been trying to keep up my training despite the bilateral PEs in March.  I've had some success but am starting to think my body has had some kind of setback.
Thursday I ran 17 miles with some speed work early and hills later.  Just before the start of the only major climb, I started feeling some pain in my lower right rib area.  It's the same kind of pain, minor but definitely there, that I had 5 days before things got bad in March.
Yesterday I ran a 4 mile cross country race at UC Santa Cruz.  My time was okay, 27:51, but I also had an asthma attack about a mile into the run.  Slowed way down, the attack eased up, and I raced the rest of the way.  A buddy of mine showed up for the race.  He was diagnosed with PEs in January.  It was great to see him there running and racing.
Today, Sunday, I ran 11 miles.  I was very tired.  It was really hard to get out the door.  Before I could make it out the door, I sat down and fell asleep for about an hour.  I think I'm going to have to find out if I'm overtraining, still recovering from the race yesterday, or still not recovered from the PEs.  It could be all three.
I can't complain.  I've read about so many others and the problems they've had. Mine are almost trivial by comparison.  I say almost because it turned on me pretty quick in March.

Hey Todd,
I tried to respond to your email, but it failed. The first year after my PE, I was sure my lungs had permanently changed and I would not be able to run as fast or as far again (though I was never real fast to begin with). I would have to take big deep breaths to feel like I was getting enough air and I had to reduce hill training and speed work. Even 10 months out, I would hit walls in training-- just be exhausted and have to take time off. However this summer has been great. That 12 month mark was like magic. So hang in there, I bet you get back to normal too. Did you run ultra marathons? More than 26. 2 seems impossible to me.
