"Running On Faith"

Well, it's been four months today that I have been a widower. In retrospect, the time has been filled with a myriad of emotions, introspections, and revelations. My emotions have run the gamut from depression, anger, melancholy, fear, anxiety, hatred, cynicism, and confusion. But I have also experienced a measure of optimism, hope, relief, peace, and yes, love.
I have taken the time to try to examine who I really am, and what it is that I want to do with the remaining time allotted me by the Almighty God. I have determined that I, like most men, am a decent person, who tries to go about his business with respect for others, the law, and the teachings of the Ten Commandments. While I am certainly a man with many faults, I am a good man and I deserve to live out my days with some level of peace and tranquility.
Perhaps my biggest revelation has been my spiritual re-awakening and my realization that my God truly loves me and wants so desperately to have a relationship with me. The result has been a profound sense that I am not alone, but that I have a companion who walks with me every step of my way. And I am finding this is giving me the strength and courage that I need to persevere with my life and the challenges that lie ahead of me. One of the “Daily Devotionals” that I read is called “Hope For Each Day”, and it is written by Billy Graham. Today's reading seems most appropriate:
“Come near to God and He will come near to you...”...James 4:8, NIV
“What a blessed promise and provision this is! It means each of us can come close to God, with the assurance He will come close to us—so close that we become conscious of His presence. This is the greatest experience we can know.
But for most of us this isn't easy. Life presents us with too many distractions, and the last thing we have time for is to be alone with God. Children, work, television, the Internet, even church activities drain away our time.
Maybe you will have to readjust your priorities. Maybe you will have to say “No” to certain activities and demands. Whatever it takes, make time to be alone with God.
Remember: He wants your fellowship, and He has done everything possible to make it a reality. He has forgiven your sins, at the cost of His own dear Son. He has given you His Word, and the priceless privilege of prayer and worship.
He WILL come near to you if you come near to Him.”
Well, God has given me more than ample time to be with Him. He has removed most of life's distractions as well. And now God has provided me someone to share my time and my heart with as I walk the path that lies ahead for me. This woman is a Daughter of His whom He has blessed with the gift of a profound spirituality and devotion to Him and His Word. Together, she and the Lord God are with me, and I am coming to that place where I may finally find the peace and serenity that I have so desperately been seeking. We have not yet met in the physical world, but somehow this does not seem important to me at this point. There is a connection and a bond that is as strong as I have ever experienced, and I believe that God is working through her to strengthen me. And who am I to question God? My path of grief has had many twists and turns, but my faith grows stronger with each passing day. And I may be “Running on Faith”, but what's wrong with that??

Faith in God is the glue that holds me together. The road is rough, but I know that God is walking it in front of me and beside me. He comforts those who mourn, and has plans for us. Jerrie

I know I used my husband as one of the mountains to keep me a safe distance from God. After his death I thought for sure I would now experience a wrath like no other but instead I received a spiritual mentor. I admit that I pushed, screamed, cried and threw everything at her to justify how much God disapproved of me. But she(HE) met me head on and it was the most profound prison break that I had ever experienced.

Although at times it has seemed like life is either black or white, I either feel really good or just down right awful...it just isn\'t ....there is color everywhere. Sometimes we need someone else to help us see it. I am glad that you have been given a gift of faith and you share that journey with us!

Joe, I am happy for you that you have found such rewards in your closer relationship with God. With only four months on the path of grief, having Him as a companion and accepting his power in your life will help you greatly. We do have distractions in our lives, some that would leave us in question of why God would allow them to happen and shake our faith. The closer we get to God the more the devil reeks his havock in our lives trying to distract us and turn us against God. You have walked the path of grief with strength and such a thoughtful mind in your many adjustments. You are blessed to have inspiration.
Pray on and be well,
Linda
