Routines

I am a creature of routines.  I get up at the same time every morning.  I go to bed at the same time every night.  Breakfast, showering, dressing, going to and coming home from work,,,,all done at the same times.  House work done on the same days and the same parts of the day.  Grocery shopping and laundry all done at the same times.  That was until I retired.  Now, I don't know if I'll fall sleep at night or if I'll sleep at all.  There is no certain time I have to got to bed or get up.  The only parts of my routines are grocery shopping and laundry and laundry is only once every two or three weeks since I stay in my uniform of gym shorts and t-shirt for the most part.  I'm a creature of habits, but, now, there isn't anything I have to do at any certain times.  I don't have to shave unless I want to, and I don't want to very much.  I have far too much time for cleaning house so there's no big rush to do any of it.  Meals are no longer special so I spend little time preparing them and eating them.  Routines,,,I need them, but don't know where to find them.

My illness does not allow me any routines. I\'m used to it -- if it is possible to get used to such as this is.

Sending you the best of thoughts and gentle ((hugs)) of understanding.

Have you thought of volunteering someplace, even though they don\'t pay you, it\'s still a routine. AND you can pick something you actually LIKE. Not like a job where you have to take the bad with the good. Take care.

You are just beginning to adjust to retirement.....give yourself some time. I know it feels like you have too much of it (time) but you will get used to a more relaxed schedule and it will seem like six Saturdays and a Sunday, which is pretty great if you think about it :-) It took Hubby about a year to really accept the fact that he would not be going back to work. I agree with the Guardian, volunteering is a great option, because if you get tired or achy you don\'t have to go to work! It will get easier, I promise. Hang in there.
