Today’s excursion continues with a visit to the famous Dracula’s Castle in Bran. This castle was constructed by the Saxons in the late 14th century to defend Brasov from invasion by the Turks. Purchased by Queen Marie in the 1920s for use as a royal residence, its interior contains rich medieval furniture.

Then we continue to visit the Citadel Door, Castle Streets and St. Nedelya Church. The UK government’s red list of countries deemed high risk because of Covid-19 has risen from zero to six with the addition of South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Zimbabwe and Namibia from noon on Friday 26 November. Non-UK residents will not be allowed to enter the country if they have previously been in the listed countries in the past 10 days. Last weekend, 10 countries in southern Africa were added to the Red list and it was announced that all vaccinated passengers arriving in the UK must take a day two PCR test and self-isolate until they receive a negative result. All things considered, though, unless you have plenty of time on your hands we recommend heading due north or due east from the capital to enjoy Romania's two greatest natural assets - Transylvania and the Danube Delta.
