Rolling my eyes...
My son and daughter-in-law stopped by yesterday... and dropped a small bombshell on me. The first thing they said is they want to do some site-seeing while on this trip. I was confused.... site-seeing? There's nothing to see that time of year as all the boat tours are closed and the mansions are only visible by boat, farmers markets are closed as well...
And THEN he says he wants to go to Chicago and then the Milwaukee County Zoo. My jaw dropped. We're only going to be there 1 1/2 days, have at least 20 people to see, and he wants to "squeeze" in side trips - 2 hours to Chicago and then a whole day there, and 45 minutes to the zoo but once there an all day walk. Yeah, my son doesn't think things through. I right away thought "where did he get this stupidity" and instantly the answer came back "ME". LOL
Ok, lesson learned here, lol.... I was already believing everything is just gonna go fine, everybody was going to be nice and cooperate, and when this came up I realized that I had EXPECTATIONS of other people that were COMPLETELY unrealistic. People will do what THEY want to do... and my part in this is just REACTION.
Luckily, as I fell asleep last night, no nightmares... BUT, as I thought about this, I could feel PANIC. Because I HAVE to let go... let my son figure it out... TRUST that everyone will be safe and fine.... We're doing Thanksgiving at his house on Thursday... I think I'll spin stories about being 16 on Lower Wacker Drive and the whinos following us around.... or the fear we felt when we took a wrong exit and wound up in a BAD neighborhood... I don't even think he knows how to drive in city traffic! This is hard! Well, I did say I needed practice! LATER!

I think you would be WISE to set out the iitinerary BEFORE leaving on this trip. I made the mistake of going to DisneyWorld years ago with my sister and her two kids and it ended up being a nightmare because HER expectations were drastically different from me and the Xs. Very tense and unpleasant couple of days.
I agree...
Yes, definitely set the itinerary. I went to Disney World with the ex. All expenses paid by his union and it was to be days of meetings for him. The first bus to DW the first day and the last bus back to the motel. Then he slipped out early the next morning to see what he missed the day before. It was a miserable trip.
