Road Trips
Apparently I am not allowed to go on Road trips. I went to Alabama with my significant other and his sister for a family weekend with his parents this weekend-two days of driving for one surprise day of fun. I love road trips, or at least, I used to.
After 8 hours of driving the first day a migraine hit, I medicated in the car and popped in my headphones, more to prevent well meaning attempts at comfort from his sister than a real desire to hear my Pride and Prejudice audio book at that particular moment. The next day, during family fun, though thank God not during the Color Run, a quirky 5k that we walked together, it struck again. I had to beg them all not to leave the museum on my account, I seriously had to beg Paul to just let me be alone at a shady picnic table for an hour and to please enjoy limited time with his family. On the drive home it happened again. Unsurprisingly on Monday I had another, and would you believe I had run out of Maxalt? I discovered then that my insurance company thinks they know how many migraines I should have a month, and that number is 12, and I ran out two days too early. Tuesday I called my Neuro, and discovered she was out of town, but another doctor had me pick up a sample of something else, one dose of nasal spray to get me to today if I had another one, which I did. It was called Zolmig, I liked it, it worked quickly.
I hope the cycle is over today. I left a message for my Neuro basically panicking because, if my preventative doesn't start working my life will be in shambles by next appointment, which isn't until Nov. 10th.
Honestly. I have had a headache most days of my life and every day since I was 17, but I have had more migraines this last month since I stopped living in denial and saw a neurologist than ever before. I'm not saying that 8 aspirins and 2 ib profins a day was any way to live, but less headaches got out of control that way, that's for sure. I didn't miss classes, I didn't feel like my life was falling apart, and no one told me how often I was allowed to be in pain. I don't want more than 12 migraines a month, I don't want ANY migraines a month, but what am I supposed to do, just not fucking live my life?! Just suffer?! I refuse.
