Hello to all of Gene's friends,
I know that some of you will have heard through the grapevine that Gene is in the process of leaving us. It has been a long, hard road for him for the past 11 years (since his stroke 3/11/05). A couple of years ago he developed colon cancer, and he didn't really follow through on the treatment.
As far as his health goes, he's his own worst enemy. The cancer came back, spread, and we found out last week that he really can't prolong things without terrible side effects. His decision was to stop treatment. I know you will support him in that decision and know that I've been working with his brother and doctors to make him comfortable.
We had a brief few moments to say goodbye, and I promised him that I would let all of you know that he has so appreciated your friendship and love on this site, and in his personal communications with you. You are his family as much as his brother and I have been -- perhaps more so in some instances.I'm not a DS follower, so if you need to reach me, please email me at aknitwizard@gmail.comSara

its strange. my friend in real life died recently. i\'d only see him a couple of times per year at the most, but he lived nearby and its like you know they are there kind of thing.
then i find out gene died and its like, wow, i actually talked to gene MORE than my friend in real life, albeit with gene it was on line playing group games. hope its all working out for him on the other side. (quoting from .... in the next room poem)
Oh my goodness. I had no idea! I will surely miss him here. We did have our \"issues\" but I alway\'s love to hear what he had to say.
