Revisiting the last week.

Mom was moved to hospice on October 17, 2015.  We were in shock.  When the nurses suggested we moved her to hospice, we were taken by surprise.  Dad and I thought we would have many more months with mom.  They moved her the same day that they suggested it.  Looking back...if we had someone to help us make decisions that wasn't emotionally involved, we might have waited a day or two before moving her.  I think that moving mom to hospice shortened her life because, to her, hospice meant the end was near and I think she quit fighting.  They put her on morphine almost immediately and she went downhill very quickly.  After 8 days, she was gone.
The good part...on mom's 81st birthday, October 20, her newest great-grandson was born.  It was so special that it should happened on her birthday.  Mom was aware enough that she repeated his name and asked how our daughter picked the name.  Mom met her new great-grandson on October 24 and smiled and said his name...she was too weak to hold him but pictures were taken with him along side of her.  She passed away the next day...it was a bittersweet time for us...losing mom and gaining a precious new life.
