Revelations
Watched "Wild" last night. Not a huge Witherspoon fan, but it was a pretty good "brain food" movie. Made me think - especially the end.
Essentially, the character comes to the conclusion that she doesn't regret anything she'd done in her life because it ultimately brought her to the place she needed to be - a place she would never have gotten to if she hadn't traveled the road she did. When I got the "I don't regret anything" comment from Huz a couple of weeks ago, I was sort of hoping that's kind of what he meant, but still was wounded. Now I feel even more convinced that's exactly what he meant.
Another revelation is how quickly we overlook our blessings and graces, instead focusing on our trials and tribulations. In the movie, the main character gets a LOT of help along her path, but she doesn't even see or really acknowledge it. It's as if she feels entitled to it. Aren't we all like that, at least a little? We expect to have good health and faithful partners and well behaved children and fulfilling careers and kind friends and good weather and and and... when any of those things falls apart, we feel deeply and personally betrayed. We don't see the helping hands reaching to hold us up, we only see the last cookie we wanted leaving the store with another customer.
Another revelation? Holy crap do I grind at something until it's nothing left but dust. Whether it's a thought that's bugging me or a skill I'm trying to learn or a friendship that's gone slightly off rails, I am all about "FIXING" until the point that it's just effed up more than it already was. I really gotta learn me some "gentle touch" skills. *sigh*
