Retreival experiences?

So I'm obsessing about this and don't know why. I'm so nervous about it, scared it's gonna hurt like an SOB....any advice or good experiences?
Then I'll be obsessing about how many fertilize, it never ends!

it won\'t end until you deliver your baby!! ;)
My retrievals never hurt just a little cramping afterward and maybe some spotting. Do you have any problems with IV sedation? I have heard some people don\'t get put all the way under for some reason, but they know they have a problem going into it.
You will just go to lala land and wake up and the RE or nurse will tell you how many they got, then the next day they will call you with a fert report. I was always a nervous wreck the whole time.

@Aristen, no I never had problems wiht sedation, I\'m just a crazy spaz that\'s afraid of not waking up, I know, I\'m a weirdo! LOL...so when will I know how many fertilize? At the day 5 report? I have so many questions I forget to ask when I\'m in the doc office, LOL...thanks for sharing your experience!

you will get a fertilization report 24 hours after ER. Then they will watch them grow and from there decide on whether to do a 3 day transfer or a 5 day transfer, if they are growing strong they will probably have you do a 5 day transfer, I know some RE\'s like one over the other. My RE only does 5 day transfers, some only do 3 day transfers they all have their different way of thinking.

I was not put under all the way, just lala land like aristen said. I wasn\'t aware of anything going on and don\'t remember anything either. I had significant anxiety both times, even though I knew what to expect the 2nd time (I have major white coat anxiety- great for having to go through IVF, right?!). The 1st time I was barely sore or anything after and really no spotting either. The 2nd time she said she had to be a little more \"rough\" to get the eggs and I was sore for a few days and had some spotting. Mostly just getting off the couch and going potty. You will know how many they retrieved right away and they will call you the next morning with how many were mature & fertilized. I KNOW it is incredibly anxious but I promise you will be fine. Thinking about you!!

I had barely any drugs & was awake for the whole thing. I remember every minute of it. I hope your office is more loose with meds!! Wishing you good luck!!

I was sedated but I remember going in and out of it during the procedure. They told me to make a CD of music that they would play and it really helped me relax. I do remember feeling pain when he punctured my ovaries to retrieve the eggs and I kept hearing the girl saying ok stop...go...stop...and other stuff as she was watching the vials fill with the fluid that was being collected.

They made me go pee right before they took me back to the retrieval but the doctor ended up using a catheter anyways to empty my bladder again but I had already had meds that I didnt really feel it.

They got 17 eggs, 8 fertilized but 1 was abnormal so they stopped it, they implanted 2 embryos (1 stuck and stayed), and they let the others grow for a few more days...they were able to freeze 2 embryos for later use.

Best of luck!

I remember a little bit. They didn\'t completely knock me out. I was kept in a twilight state for any pain and to keep me calm. There were about four people doing things in the room around me. I remember them couting the eggs which I enjoyed hearing that because I felt like they were counting out my future children:0) I was uncomfortable going home and the day after was a bit sore. One thing I feel that my doc did NOT stress enough to me was the bed rest factor and the no lifting heavy things or doing anything too busy. I over did it and it really caused me a LOT of pain and my ovaries went into a slight case of OHSS. Seriously no matter how great and strong you feel after your retrieval. Go home and lay around like a giant bloaty porpoise for several days doing absolutely nothing. Get up to pee but then lay back down and chill. This may be a great time to watch a tv series on netflix or something. Couch potato it up girl:0) *HUG!! I can\'t wait to hear about the rest of your journey!!

I was so nervous before my first one because I never had IV sedation before. But its like I feel asleep in the best sleep ever and was woken up 30 seconds later. It actually was fantastic. You are under for such a sort time at such a low dose that you have no reason to fear not waking up. Then you will be a little sore afterwards but not bad. With my first IVF I made DH take me somewhere by like 3:00 because I was SOOOOOOO bored sitting on the couch, so we went and walked around Home Depot. Then the next day you will get a call from the lab so you know how they are all doing.

LIke most of the other ladies, I was put under for the procedure, so obviously didn\'t feel anything. I woke up to intense cramping, but they gave me some pain meds to swallow which made that all go away pretty quickly. Really, the recovery was the worst for me with OHSS (and the fact that they got 37 of those little guys). I think I walked funny for at least 5 days after the retrieval and had a few bathroom issues (TMI?), etc. But, I really think that is b/c of the OHSS. Good luck tomorrow!! Definitely rooting for you!

After having 3 surgeries in the past 10 months I can honestly tell you the going to sleep part is the easiet. One minute you are lying there awake and having them put the IV in your arm and the next minute you are asleep. My retreival was okay.. I was completely out for it and woke up during it and was talking to the dr although I don\'t remember that part. I did wake up towards the end while he was getting the last one out and do remember the pinching feeling of the dr getting it out but you\'re like half with it so it doesn\'t really hurt. I was sore after and went home and took some pain meds but I also got over stimulated so everything was a swollen mess down south. I think for the first day I stayed in bed but after that I was fine. You\'ll do great!! Good luck honey!
