Resigned and Resolved

So I am over my tantrum from a few days ago and am accepting that I now am truly living the 'ride' with a close family member with addiction.  It is what I expected; it is what I knew would happen.  I don't like it, but, that is the way it is.  I remind myself that it is HIS journey more than mine, his choices, his outcome.  I hope for the best pushing away my desire (or need) to believe in the best.  What a tricky thing to do.
Focusing on other people and other things in my life is really helpful.  While what is going on with him is big, it cannot be the biggest thing in my life.  I told this to a close friend last night who respectfully said, "yes, but a son and what happens to him (stepson or not) is a big thing."  True.  But it can't be overwhelming.
Fortunately I have other children and loved ones who give me reason to laugh, smile and hope.  They are JUST as important and a BIG part of my life.
