resent visit to new gastroenterologist
Hi everybody, this is my first journal entry. I hope what I have to share can help or give me some advise.
I am a 54 year old female, and have had hep c for 35+ years. Geno type 1A. 1st round tx, May this year, but was only able to complete 5 weeks due to low cbc's.
My visit this week was with a Dr. at IU Med Center who has studied and specializes in hep c. His plan is to start me on a clinical trial, as soon as the drug that is most compatible to my gene type comes available. Unfortunately, the drug coming out in the spring will not be a right match and to just put me on it to see would only lower my tolerance for the proper match. Could be 5 years away but there are other options in the works. He said there is a test you can take to see if you are compatible with Pegasys, etc. It's $300.00. Sorry I don't know the name of the test. Has anybody else been told this ?
He also said I need to stop smoking herb (bummer) because new findings have shown to be more damaging than recently thought, to a person with hep c.
Thanks to all for all the helpful info I have read on this sight and my prayers and
best wishes for good health and happiness.
Peace & Love
