Report Writing - How to Format a Business Report

Introduction

Report writing is a time consuming company so it's an excellent shame if, having dedicated all of the opportunity to writing your document, the grade is such that hardly anybody can be bothered to read it. Quite honestly, most report readers don't actually read all the report; they are too short of time. You might as well understand it and accept it -- which is normal. Frequently these are the summary, the conclusions and recommendations.

Of course, some readers do want every detail you so carefully contained, they are specialists, but most don't. Most readers just need two things: that the information they want is where they expect it to be so they can find it, so it's written clearly so they can understand it.

It is comparable to reading a newspaper. You expect the news headlines to be on front page; the sports policy to be at the back; the TV listings on page anything and also the editorial comment in the middle. There is a convention as to what happens where. Stick with the convention and please your viewers. Break the convention and people may become slightly irritated - and bin your own report.
