REMEMBERING YOU AT TWILIGHT

Twilight is such a sad and lonely time of day for me.  Once it was the time when we enjoyed riding our pontoon around the lake where we live, and before we arrived back home the moon would rise over the water.  What a spectacular, golden glow it made in the sky, and in the water as well.  Our home is in such a peaceful and beautiful spot that we didn't feel the need to travel to "be somewhere" to have a good time.  We would say, "We are somewhere!" and sit on the porch, absorbing the scene before us.  You could "park" the pontoon so smoothly, and we'd grab on to the pier railings so you could tie it up.  The light in the den glowed through the door - welcoming us back. We were blessed.....I am so thankful for those memories.
Twilight - the gathering darkness - the ending of a day.  The twilight of your life crept in on us, and we fought it for a long time.  Years. Once it seemed as if we'd won.  The sunshine was bright and beautiful;  we could laugh again, stay away from the hospital, be "normal" once more.  Then one day...just a regular old day... the call came:  "It's leukemia - get to the hospital as soon as you can!"   "For how long?"  "30 days."  Twilight was really creeping in now, and behind it the darkness.
Two years ago, you left me -- ironically at twilight on a September evening.  You were so tired of hospitals, needles, blood transfusions, platelet infusions, injections, the trip to the cancer center (sometimes 5 days/week).  It was football season, and you couldn't bear the sound of the TV;  this broke my heart.  A year after you left, the Saints won the Super Bowl.  It made me so sad that you weren't here to see it.  People said, "He'll see it; don't worry."  I'm not sure I believe that, but it's a nice thought.  Mr. Who Dat, Loyal Saints Fan for 40 Years, missed the Big One.  I watched it all by myself, and wished you were here.
I visited your resting place yesterday, and brushed the recently mowed grass from your marker.  Now your name and dates are  clearly visible on the bronze plate.  It is so hard to believe that the handsome young guy I married in 1957 has now left this earth forever -   and I am here in the twilight of my life - wondering, waiting, and missing you.

What a very moving entry. I really wish I had words to say to answer you, but as we both know, there are none. So sad.

I am still wiping my tears, and I read your poignant and beautiful writing 10 minutes ago. Dear dear dear Doyew,my heart aches for the times you were together...I could just see it all in your vivid detail. Have you painted any of it? Even the light in the window? Much love, Ann

Doyew.....The memories you shared are so beautiful and that handsome young man.......he waits for you.....there, just beyond the twilight.....with all of our loved ones. I choose to believe that they wait more patiently than we do here on this side but they want us too and, even in God\'s Heaven, still love and miss us. Peace to you today.
Hugs, Dianne

Doye, what a beautiful picture you painted in your journal. It reinforces what we have said about being thankful for our memories, the bad ones, like the call saying \"leukemia\" and the good ones like the twilight pontoon rides. The void in our hearts won\'t be filled until we are reunited with our young, strong, good looking Husbands again, but at least they left us good memories.I know how much you miss Frank and all the good times ya\'ll had.I also know you are a very kind, comppasionate friend. I\'m sure Frank is proud of you, and he and Donald will be there to meet us at the Eastern Gate when our time comes.God Bless you, Jerrie
