Remembering The Big Black Trunk
What is remembering? What does it mean to you?
Remembering for me is everything....It can be remembering all the good times...or all the bad times....it can remembering watching my four sons sitting on the couch laughing so hard....about something...not even sure they knew what was funny....
Remembering the many hours we spent in the car together smelling odors that should have never been allowed on this planted as each boy tried to out do the other....them laughing so hard as they watched mom and dad trying to pretend they smelled nothing.....
Remembering the time we all moved except for Shawn as he had not been in the baker yet....we moved to Joliet, Il...Beside the big trash removal container sit this really neat black trunk that of course I just had to have....Remembering as my sons go Oh mom, not again....picking up someone else's throw-away's I think we call that garage sales today..
Remembering us all trying to carry Big Black Trunk and tugging and pulling l this hugh truck up the stairs to our new place to live....
Remembering as we let the this black truck sit in the middle of our very small apartment while we tried to get the things out for the night to unpack the next day.
Remembering when out of the blue we hear these horrible sounds coming from somewhere....but knowing it was one of the boys.
Remembering the looks on our faces as we realized that Brent had been locked in the Big Black Trunk that mom just had to have....
Remembering that there was no key that came with the Trunk...
Remembering who put Brent in the Truck looking at Ken and Jeff.
Remembering when this little small voice coming from Ken's mouth "I didn't mean too"
Remembering standing there wondering what we were going to do to get Brent out of the Trunk.
Remembering trying to pry the lock open, thinking of trying to cut it open but then we might hit Brent...
Remembering telling Brent it would be okay as I am on the outside of that Big Black Trunk and he is stuck inside with no visible air getting inside.
Remembering their dad coming up with an ideal how to open the trunk without scaring it...after all I wanted the trunk, but I wanted Brent out too..
Remembering talking to Brent, trying to sooth him, telling him to to take small shallow breaths so he would not run out of air...of course scaring him the entire time.
Remembering telling him to keep talking to me as dad worked on getting it open...What was I thinking...telling him to breath shallow breaths but to keep talking to me...
Remembering sweat pouring down my face in fear...as their dad made a key out of a kitchen knife.
Remembering as we all stood around waiting for the trunk to be open to find Brent safe and sound...
Remembering the sound of the click as the lock opened and we all looked at each other and thinking finally....it's open
Remembering opening the top of the trunk wondering what we would find, our son laying there almost out of air, sweating from being closed up for over an hour in the Big Black Trunk.
Remembering as we opened up the Truck...Brent jumps out and says "What took so long, I got to Pee!!!
Remembering the Laughs we have shared through the years of the Big Black Truck that still sits in my garage....but with a broken lock!
I hope each of you today can find something to remember that will put a smile on you face.....for a little while....Love to all the mom's.

Memories to me are bittersweet. I can smile at some memories and cry about others. The hardest part is that Lisa is not here creating more memories. I shouldn\'t be a downer on this Green Smiley Monday.
Hugs,
Missinglisa, do not feel your a downer on today. I do not participate in what is called \"Green Smiley Monday\" Maybe it was started for something good I don\'t know, but when I come here to write my journal they are my thoughts for the day...Memories make me smile...but they also make me sad.....Sandi
love sharing the laughter moments and thank you as I will run through a few of my laughter moments with Matthew and the farts in the car bring back quite a few with my own boys...thank you! hugs and love, Lynette
ahhh Sandi, loved hearing about you \"remembering the big black trunk\" and all the treasures the trunk delivered to you heart over the years. I love how this trunk you had to have, is still offering you treasures today, in heart whispers of lovely vivid memories. I was just in Joliet this morning, for my bereavement therapy appointment no less. Next Monday morning, as i cruise Joliet, i will smile thinking of your & yours ... and your big black trunk! de
Sandi, Brent having \"to Pee\' brought back happy memories of my boys as well. Thanks for putting a smile on my face..Love to you sweet friend, Pat
Thank goodness Brent was Ok! That must have been pretty scary but then I guess he had a good story to tell his buddies!
Over the years, my memories have definitely been geared to the \"good\" ones. That was a huge change for me and I am grateful for that. Love, Donna
What a vignette! So relieved he was ok. What could have been an awful time for your family was not, thank you thank you thank you.
Sandi, your 4 boys must have given you a lot to worry about but a lot of laughter and love as well. Hugs, Linda
Ahhh...sweet, funny (and a little scary) memories. Thanks for giving me smiles tonight. Love to you, Valerie
memories good and bad are all we have left. I enjoyed your story and think back of the younger years with my 3 sons and the joy they brought. Ryan always had his problems with being depressed and being bipolar but he brought much joy as well. I miss him dearly
Thanks for sharing this story....made me smile and really made me think too. First of the time Kala as a toddler got stuck in a recliner, then, of how we...or rather \"I\", sometimes feel stuck in a big black trunk. Lot\'s of idea\'s and thoughts swirling around in my head after reading this. I\'ll be thinking on this for a while..... Thank you my dear friend!
this could have been more of a memory of tragedy had it not turned out for the good.....gives me chills. No more locks....that is for sure. I think our memories are always prompted by different things but for me most of my memories are locked on Brandon. It has consumed my life and will forever. I don\'t know that there will ever come a time when whatever happens on a day to day basis will keep me from including all things Brandon. It is just what it is and nothing can prevent it. I love remembering the good times but most of the time my memories are about what led up to his leaving....I hope for better days. Love, dale..brandon\'s mom
I have memories that surface from my childhood now and then. They are always both sweet and sad. Only my sister survives from those days, everyone else is gone except for my cousins and a brother-in-law. My sister is in a nursing home and she\'s lost her awareness of things to a great extent.
I didn\'t have a really happy childhood, but I guess the memories of times like that are special to us in our later years. I never had children, I\'ve always failed at relationships.
I think of the house where I grew up, all that happened then...and how it is all receding into the dust of time where no one will know of it or care. Our moment in the sun is so fleeting, it disappears like mist in the glare of a new day. I hold on to my memories...Christmas trees, Dad watering the lawn, gladiolus along the driveway.
