Remembering Jarrett
I was thinking alot today about my little boy. I still remember the day I found out I was pregnant with my son. It was Christmas eve, we were at a friends house for her birthday and I was feeling pretty sick. A friend told me to take a test and sure enough, there was that plus sign! I remember getting down on my knees and praying right there on the bathroom floor thanking god for this amazing gift. Later when he was about five or 6 he asked me what the best Christmas Gift I ever got was...and I looked at him gave him a squeeze and said "you were" At about the same time Jarrett was Diagnosed with PDD-NOS and ADHD. He was extremely high functioning, but there were still alot of things that he had to work extra hard at. The school wanted to put him in a special needs school, but I wasn't gonna let that fly, I fought very hard, worked with him everyday so that when it came time for him to be evaluated they would see just how bright he was. I dealt with every meltdown, every parent teacher conference, every social issue, until there were no more reason to argue that he could not be in a regular class. Jarrett was such a sweet soul, I remember one day I was picking him up after school and there was a little girl there that always had holes in her already too small clothing, her coat was torn and had stuffing sticking out all over the place. As I grabbed Jarretts little hands he looked at her and then to me and said " Mommy can we help her?" I was so proud of my little man, that at such a young age he already understood that she needed help and wanted to reach out to her. We went straight to Kmart and bought her about $100 worth of clothes and a new winter coat. The next day he gave it to her as a secret Santa gift..for him it wasn't important that she knew who it came from, only that she got it...
Well, I have to run an errand and I'm sure my hubby is getting impatient but I will continue sharing my memories when I get home...
By the way for those of you who have a Facebook page, please go to Jarrett's Law and click "like" and then share the page with your friends..we are petitioning for harsher punishment for DUI offenders and improvements in the laws in that regard in Jarrett's name so that in the future no one else has to lose a loved one because an 100% avoidable act.
