Remembered yet Forgotten

I was talking to my granddaughter Pam the other day. (Ken's)daughter. She lives in Fl and I live in In so we don't see each other a lot, but she was my first born of my first born. Even though our love for our grandchildren is love, for me there is something just a little special about my first Grandchild. Some I have heard say that they have a little more special love for one of their children yet for me I always felt I loved each equally in their own special ways. As she and I talked we referred to her mother had remarried and she(my granddaughter) had not yet decided what she wanted her children ( one due this Sept) to refer to the new husband of her mother.  I mentioned Pam lives in Fla ans her mother at the present live in Al.  But as our discussion went on we talked of Ken. When Ken first left us, she would find Morgan on the deck playing and talking and having tea and cookies with no one my grand daughter could see, so she would ask her who her friend was and she would with a big smile on her face "Well momma, you know it is PaPaw right here.  This went on for some. time, Pam would fin Morgan playing with PaPaw. As Pam would watch her tears filled her eyes wishing that her dad could really be there as it should be.  It has been 3 plus years now and I asked Pam does Morgan still play with PaPaw, she was sad to say not any more. Oh she knows he is in Heaven watching her, being a little tot she was the memories have faded.  For us  that had years with with Ken our memories are as fresh as if he is still with us.  Our memories will remain. As I was writing another one of our moms, she had also responded that her son's children were young when he passed away and their memories of what the knew have also faded. As I thought of this shortly after Ken was gone wanting him back my heart broken, i too wished there was some way I could not remember therefore my heart would not be broken into so many pieces. ...yet, I knew I would always want to remember the all the times we had together even though even now and probably forever at times my pain will flood back as strong as it was that first night and through it all I want to remember, but as I thought of Morgan as her Papaw left her with happy memories and memories the family will share with her of her Great Wonderful PaPaw she will not feel the pain we that spent time wiith Ken....with all the love she showed him and received from him for her will be happy memories....the death, the loss for her has been forgotten...it may seem sad but it is a lesson of life. Life continues forward and yet the pain can be as fresh as if it happened today, life does continue through the eyes of a child....
