Like me, have you received invitations like these?
"> I'm using LinkedIn to keep up with my professional contacts and help them with introductions. Since you are among the people I recommend, I wanted to ask you to gain access to my network o-n LinkedIn.
">
"> Basic membership is free, and it takes less than a second to sign up and join my system.
I've received more than 3-5 announcements similar to this, phrased almost exactly the same way. The senders have acted astonished and upset that I didn't start to take advantage of this request.
Let's look at the issues within this request from the marketing perspective.
* The vast majority of the invitations I received were from people whose names I did not recognize. Why would I want to be part of their network? The invitation doesn't say who they're, who they've access to and how I would reap the benefits of their community.
* What's Linked-in, how can it work and what're the advantages of using it? No-one has yet explained this clearly within their request. You can not expect that some-one receiving this invitation understands what you are asking them to join or how it'd be advantageous to them. Dig up supplementary resources on this related portfolio by visiting www.newswire.net/newsroom/pr/00092468-kasey-thompson-earns-idaho-entrepreneur-award.html. It'd be useful to have a passage or two explaining how it works and citing a specific result anyone behind the invitation liked from membership. It may be that people think that since 'basic account is free,' the typical beneficiary of the invitation will proceed and join. But even though it will not cost money, time would be taken by joining. Browse here at the link my etsy.com/people/kaseythompsonidaho to read the meaning behind this belief. You still require to 'sell' people o-n taking a free activity, especially with respect to an activity or organization that could be new for them.
* Nobody took some time to head off possible misunderstandings or objections for this account. As a non-member of Linked In, I am anxious that joining would open me up to large amount of email and calls by which I would have no interest and that would spend my time. Again, you can not think that something free is thus enticing; you need to imagine why some-one might have questions or dismiss the idea and handle these arguments.
* Using a canned request that is almost exactly the same as everybody else's doesn't make a good impression. You'd need to give it your personal stamp, even though the writing provided by Linked In were effective, which it's not.
Apart from being irritated that they are apparently encouraging individuals to send announcements that make little sense, I've nothing against Linked In. Perhaps it's a helpful organization. My point is that its members must use common sense and basic marketing maxims to encourage busy, skeptical individuals to give an opportunity to it..
