Reiki
Reiki is an energy modality. My Reiki journey began in 1998 when I started working on my postRN degree. One of my profs had just returned from a sabatical year studying alternative therapies and during that time she became a Reiki Master. We had to attend the College of Nursing Research day and this particular prof had a poster on alternative therapies. That day I had a migraine headache from my period. She asked me to sit in a chair and have a Reiki chair treatment, how can you say no to your prof? So I sat down, closed my eyes and had my first experience with Reiki. It was interesting. I saw my hands in my lap and they were glowing white, I felt my heart beating in the right side of my chest. Interesting was the description of what my prof experienced when she gave me the treatment, it mirrored what I felt and she described it first! My headache was lessoned, but not gone however I was headache free for the next 3-4 months.
In 2002 I started working as a nursing instructor and found a Reiki master who taught Reiki out of our school.It took me awhile to explore and be comfortable with what Reiki is. One semester I had students on the Rehabilitation ward. One of the patients there was a Catholic Nun recovering from a stroke. Her sister came daily to give her Reiki treatments. I figured if a Nun could become attuned to Reiki it must be good. In 2005 I completed my first degree in the Usui System of Natural Healing I wanted to be able to use this healing for myself and my loved ones. I have since taken my level 2 and 3. I am on my journey to becoming a Reiki Master Teacher. I am not sure when this will happen but it will.
Reiki is a Japanese work that describes the life giving energy that is in and around us, flowing through our bodies nourishing us. If we experience a block in the flow of this energy we experience dis ease. Reiki flows through the hands of a Reiki practitioner releasing the blockage allowing the bodies natural energy to flow and heal itself. There are many sites with information on Reiki, I think the most important aspect is that Reiki helps the body, mind and spirit to heal itself.
i use Reiki daily to help with my life. Reiki is responsible for how well I am doing. A good example is my CT guided wire biopsy. I had local freezing of the skin and required nothing else. I gave myself and sent Reiki to everyone involved with the procedure as did my Reiki Master. When i returned to my hospital bed my Reiki Master gave me a hands on treatment and I had no pain. When my feeding tube was put in and they removed my NG tube I called my Reiki Master to come give me a hands on treatment. i hurt from my nostril to my stomach and every inch in between. She came and within an hour I was pain free and it did not return. I am sure I had raw spots from my nose down the back of my throat to my stomach. I had beed bleeding from the NG and was up at night with pain as the intermittent suction moved the tube every time it sucked or let go. The incredible thing is you don't have to believe in it, it just works. Believe me it was hard to get my medical educated head around it! Not everything can be explained by science, Reiki is spiritual.
Can you tell that the teacher in my wants to be able to explain things so everyone can understand and the nurse in me wants to make everyone better. I must make sure I am not pushy and don't overextend myself causing myself stress. . . I have much to write but it doesn't have to be done all in one day. . .
