Reconnecting and disconnecting

I have been kind of isolated lately,  mainly because I use to have friends in Brooklyn where I live for 14 years, but to be fair most of them move and the rest were work friends that no longer work there or sadly, got fired.   Al has a complete network of friends and truthfully they have welcoming me, but I wanted to make at least one friend around here....so far even tough I am friendly with my coworkers...but not real friends.
I was thinking about that and out the blue  I called my uncle, who I haven't seen in a year.  He lives in the Bronx and I do love him, so I called him and he seem pleasantly surprise...my uncle Ray has always been very private and rarely if never invites anyone to his home.  To my surprise that is exactly what he did...invite us-me and Al-to his home..he went out for a nice family dinner. It was nice to reconnect with him and he and Al hit it off very nicely, my aunt-his wife- is almost the same age as me, we had a great time.  It felt good reconnecting with him.
My daughter in the other hand has been disconnecting with me lately, she wanted to take a bartending class, she even when and check out the school, she said she could get a part time job and even tough is not what i picture her doing, she sounded very excited and I gave her the $$$ to go.  The weekend she was supposed to start came and go-the weekend before past.  On Monday her dad send me a text asking me if I heard from her, turns out she went to Baltimore to visit one of her friend-Rachael from high school she goes to Hopkins now-was supposed to be back on Sunday and on Monday she still wasnt back.  Told him no I hadnt heard from her. She finally came back Monday night, I called her to know how she was doing and her response was: "I'm back, I'm fine, went to Baltimore, now leave me alone"

I called her again on Thursday and left her a message, telling her I hoped she was doing well and I just wanted to know what happened with the classes, if she used the money to let me know, what ever it is we can talk about it.
She still hasnt answer...on Friday her dad text me:  "She is fine".  And I am still receiving the silent treatment from her.
I looked back and the thing is, I have not done anything wrong-if she is not talking to me is not my fault.  I might go visit her on Wedsn just to see how is she doing.
I love my daughter but sometimes I just don't understand her. Its strange because we were talking almost everyday or everyother day.
Al has decided that we have been under too much stress lately and book a 2 day spa for us on Thurs and Friday in the Poconos.  I have to admit its a nice touch.  I have been working almost every night and with him working during the day and somedays at night also we have not been seen each other that much.  And in the retail bussiness I can't get any weekends off until Dec 28.. and he will be leaving to France soon.
Al is toughtful,  now if I only knew what is really happening with my daughter..arrrgggh!

Al sounds like a \"keeper\" to me! He is obviously sensitive to your moods and well aware of the stress you have been under.
As to your daughter, I would be DEMANDING to know what she did with the $$ you gave her FOR THE BARTENDING CLASSES and if she used it for this trip to Baltimore (or anything else) I would be holding her accountable (and WITHHOLDING $$ for anything else from here on in.)
I would also be a little suspicious as to WHY all of a sudden she is not communicating with you -- this doesn\'t sound good to me.
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Put yourself first now and enjoy that spa weekend! Sounds like something I ought to do for myself in the next couple of weeks!

Well it\'s a good bet she spent the money and doesn\'t want to hear what you have to say about it. But don\'t let her get away with this. She needs to learn the consequences of her actions even though it will hurt you too.

Your Al is definitely a keeper. Enjoy your time in the Poconos with Al.

I can relate to you and your daughter. My daughter is almost 22 now and she has been out of the house living on her own for almost 4 years now. We used to do so many things today, she would call me just about everyday, even if it was on her break from one of the two jobs she works. Now she has a serious boyfriend and we just don\'t talk as much and it saddens me so much. I have a 14 year old son stil at home, but I don\'t have a clue how I am going to deal with myself when both of my kids are gone. I will suffer from empty next sydrome really bad....I can already tell.
I will certainly pray for you and your daughter. Take care and God bless you and your family. XXXXX\'s
