Reasons I left Maine

(1) My F'n brother: Living with him was a nightmare, but I could not just throw him out. He did not contribute enough financially to even cover the expense of having him there, nor did he contribute his fair share of the work around the place. He was unpleasant, at times, and caused a great deal of damage.
(2) I could not keep up with the repairs on the house, nor find a way to balance the budget so that I would not go deeper into debt with each passing month.
(3) The school system, using the "zero tolerance" disapline policy, was quite horrible for the girl, and they were behind academically, as well.
(4) I had no friends at all in the area. I was sick for 4 years; so sick that I was practically house bound, and there was no one to even visit me. I was painfully lonely, with nowhere to go and no one to do anything with.
(5) Doctors were hard to find - whether medical doctors or psychological, leaving me without care when I needed it, for both the girl and myself. We often had doctors quit or abandon us, and could not find a replacement locally, requiring us to travel quite a distance for care.
(6) I could not do that much work by myself - gardening was a nightmare, because the weeds grew better than the food plants, and clearing the snow and maintaining the lawn were a constant occupation.
(7) My pets keep being poisoned - lost 6 cats last year, 9 the prior years.
(8) That neighbor from across the street, screaming in my face several times for things that I did not even do - either the girl or the brother did - and telling other people not to come near me, either.
(9) Too much work, too much pain, way too cold, unfriendly, and great distances to travel for any real purpose.
(10) Contractors hard to come by and unwilling to come to the house or charging way too much for their services.
I hated it there, and so did the girl, and it was almost all I could do to get out of there.
