Really? Panicked about kittens again
Today, I asked a friend on facebook about adopting out kittens. She fosters kittens and has adopted out thousands. In our discussion it came out that I got Miranda as a playmate for Taemin. We found Taemin in our yard, alone, starving and scared about a month ago. 2 weeks ago we got Miranda from the pound. Today I was told that the pound had an outbreak of Panlukemia about a week ago. And I should carefully watch her for another week. It's normally very fatal and contagious and yadda yadda. So I COMPLETELY fell apart thinking, did i just bring a fatal disease into my house, and potentially harm an innocent other kitten AND all my existing cats???
My heart is pounding out of my chest, so I contact Fuzzy.com and they said symptoms of panluk usually present within 5-7 days, and if she's eating and drinking and no diahrea, then we're verly likely in the clear, but I could have her tested again just to ease my mind. OK fine. that helps, but the problem i'm having lately is that once the panic sets in, it WON'T LEAVE. I've been sitting here trying to calm down for a while, still on the verge of crying and hyperventillating. My mom is still in the hospital, too. Why won't this super intense panic feeling go away?

I know how those panic attacks can be. We get stuck in them and eventually it can almost control our minds into this whirpool of anxiety, confusion, and frustration. I would try and use a distraction coping skill, maybe occupy your mind on something else to give your mind a break, but I know it's easier said than done.
not sure about panlukemia but my kittens had horrible diarrhea after i had adopted them. The vet tried everything and nothing worked. Another vet he was talking to told him to boil chicken until it fell off the bone and feed them that.
It worked something in the boiled chicken helped get whatever it was under control and i had to feed them boiled chicken morning noon and night until they were a year old. In their case i think it was a stomach parasite or something.
on the panic attack side of things anymore i pray and they go away. Sometimes listening to your favorite music also helps.
I hope your feeling better today StormCloud :)
did you get your kittens their parvo vaccines? If you did they probably will be ok. Yearly parvo vaccines are given for that disease for adult cats as well.
They both have their first vaccines. They are about 8 weeks old. I've had him 3 weeks, and her 2 weeks. Vet said she would have had symptoms a week ago and definitely by now. They have tons of energy, tons of appetite, and purr and play a lot. Logically, my brain says they are totally fine. But the trauma of all that shit she said yesterday hit me so hard I can't seem to let it go.
I'm watching youtube videos on how to stop catastrophizing. They aren't helping. In my mind, i go to the worst case scenario, and my brain gets a death grip on that idea, and all I can do is panic and cry. What if it's a particularly long incubation period the vet has never seen? what if this, that, other, etc. non-stop.
I'm trying to convince myself they are ok, but moreover, i'm 53 and tired of feeling like this for almost all of my life.
For example, when someone is late, I think they died in a car crash or they decided to hate me and never talk to me again. My brain feels pickled, like... tunnel vision. My world is small, just this room with kittens. I need to get out and do something else, but i can't seem to get off this chair and go. I'm frozen.
She got vaccinated for all the stuff on May 10th. She's fine. He got his vaccine 2 weeks ago, and he's fine.
My brain still won't shut up, but i'm fighting it. They are fine, perfectly healthy kittens. GET IT THROUGH YOUR BRAIN..... omg. They are fine. accept it. dammit. (I'm yelling at myself, btw, not you)
Did you find some YT videos on meditating and tapping? Glad it sounds like your kitten will be just fine.
