Reality Setting In... AGAIN!
I was finally mustering that courage. Called the attorney after work today. I come to find out she is no longer with the firm. They only handle easy, no contest divorces. Also they no longer travel to our area (she came here for evening hours.) I am waiting to hear from someone in the office to make sure that since I did file and serve over a year ago, that I do not have to do that again.
IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEA, CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME IF THIS STILL WILL HOLD UP EVEN IF FILED BY SOMEONE WHO IS NOW GONE?
I know of others who went online printed out the forms and did their own divorces. Lord, I wish I could do that. Then thought of haggling and more money being tossed in THEIR (attorney) pockets rather than leaving a few measly bucks in mine. Feeling very frustrated and had a bit of discouraging hopelessness... then occurred to me that perhaps this is to CHALLENGE me to see IF I truly am strong and capable enough to do this for myself?
A glitch with our printer so I have no way to print my completed form for passport (think I will send it to work computer to print it out) I can fill it out manually for them, but do not want to have to pay again... they can see from my gmail that I was already billed.
The clock ticking with our challenge on the back taxes from IRS. I wrote a letter and now we are to set a court date (Phila or Pittsburg) to pleed our case. Can get appt aid (I am afraid they won't do that because they will say we must pay for attorney as we are not completely broke. I was planning on having divorce attorney help... or the woman who did our taxes the past 2 years. She was the one who pulled up our records to tell us what was going on when we first heard of the problem. But not sure she is still around as often). I want to tell HIM (stbx) to track down someone to help with the tax deal as HE is home all day with plenty of time.
Things are giving me grief.... and I don't have the patience or strength to fight... But I am learning. Why can't things go easy for a change????

I hope everything works out for you with the legal situation.
Thanks...cross your fingers, say some prayers (can use all the help I can get)
Hang in there Kim. If you filed once, I don't see why you will have to file again unless there is a statue of limitations in your state. When I filed., it took me almost a year but, that was because her lawyer was fighting everything. I filed in August and didn't get my divorce until the following July.
As it originally was explained, after the papers were agreed on and signed, we still had to wait a year before it would be finalized. I foiled and served him just after Easter last year. But he didn't want it and we had finances to try to get through and haggle over. Plus he had health issues so I put it on the back burner. I am thinking since it is on record, I should at least be that far. I should never have stopped.
good luck with the costly legal eagles.....hugs bill
hugs my friend. hope all goes well. In Canada the laws are different. It took us 3 years because of him, his mother and sister lying through their teeth. You will be fine. Hang in there.
You can always get a different lawyer and sue your former lawyer for neglecting you. Yes! Layers have malpractice insurance just liker doctors do and remember, the first visit's free which will tell you all you need to know.
God Bless
Have no clue where the hell she went. At this point, I realize she can (and did) drag her feet as much as stbx (yes, and me too).... and neither one seems to care. It sucks! Turned off my brain from thinking about it for tonight. Will deal tomorrow.
Hugs Kim.
Reality bites back:) I get it. I am being helped with irs by the state university grad program. It’s affordable and the professors oversee the work. We just did our passports at the post office. Took 7 weeks. Remember to focus on one thing at a time or it will be too much.
Check out LawHelp.org. Select your state. It will give you resources. What's stopping you from telling your husband to track down someone to help with the taxes? Just say, I won't have time to do this while I'm working so please take care of this. This isn't just your burden to address. Tell him you can't do it.
THE SAGA CONTINUES--- rmb- every time I try to get him to do something , I get the " :But you're so much better at handling that stuff" (which I have informed him I am well aware translates to HE doesn't wanna do it) Plus he whines he doesn't know where the papers are. I am going to get them together and hand them over to him tonight. I am DONE. Is time he does something. So many things are going wrong around the house, but he could care less. Quite frankly, Im am about at the point where I am ready to just walk the hell away.
For anyone going for a passport BE CAREFUL--- I was directed to a site online to fill out and prepare passport forms to prepare for your appt. PASSPORT USA--- will put in your information into the passport application , CHARGE YOU $38--- and you print out the form to take with you. I (as well as others) ASSUMED THIS WAS THE INITIAL PROCESSING FEE--- I go to the post office and the woman tells me there were others who did this too. They fought to get their money back. So I did too.
I got an almost immediate refund, followed by a nice little note stating that they tell us up front they are not affiliated with USPS and this is not in place of the completed form submitted for the passport. (which the post office supplies for free) (SO TELL ME--- WTF IS IT THEN In "good faith" she will refund my entire amt this time. (Of course this was after I saw it already posted on my bank info.--- and did mention I would be informing others...)
So the passport is in process (I told SM... ready or not--- he said he is ready. Thankfully right now he is my little glimmer of hope in a dismal picture. ) Next will be to start with another attorney (or even find one)--- one step and one day at a time... All of this is too much at one time (J you are so right about that). Thanks everybody.
Yes one step at a time. Hang in there. Hold firm. You can do this. You really can. Don’t ever doubt you are not strong enough. You have tolerated and put up with a lot in your life. That takes real STRENGTH. So you are strong. You just have to keep moving forward, even an inch at a time. Momentum will eventually take hold. Getting pissed off is GOOD. It helps keep things moving.
LOL Well then, I should soon be full steam ahead. haha Am extremely pissed and fed up these days. :)
Let ‘er rip!
