Ready to start IVF!

Yesterday we had Ian’s third and hopefully last urologist appointment. We originally went because we have male factor infertility. Since then, he’s undergone series after series of testing, all which have come out pretty much inconclusive as to why he has low sperm count. I went in hoping that this doctor wasn’t going to try to do more tests, keep waiting, and procrastinating when all we really want to do is start fertility treatments. When I talked to him over the phone a few weeks ago, he made the comment, “oh you both are still young and have time.” What? HELLO! We’ve been trying for almost two years (January will be 2 years) and I’ll be 36 next month. C’mon! The thing is, I need his referral to my doctor in order start fertility treatments. Ian and I talked beforehand and agreed that even if he continues procrastinating and sugggests more tests, that we would tell him we’d really like to start some kind of treatment, even if it’s IUI which my insurance covers 100% with no limit. So, these last series of tests came out pretty normal. He took a genetics test and more hormone tests. His progesterone levels were actually a little high and not balanced with his testosterone levels which the doctor said can sometimes cause low sperm count but in his case, it wasn’t severe enough and he doubts that’s the reason. So he gave us 2 options – 1) try a medication that may help his sperm count, it’s given to women with breast cancer (don’t remember the name) or 2) start IVF. DING, that was like music to my ears as soon as he said that. In fact he started discussing the medication option and the percentages and I was barely listening. I think he said he if we choose the medication, he has a 10% chance his sperm count/quality would increase and of course our chances with IVF would be much higher. He also said our chances are even greater with IVF because I have no issues. I think he said we have about a 40% chance with IVF considering I’m over 35. I thought that was kinda low, but I’ll take it!!! I then finally chimed in and told him that’s exactly what we wanted to hear and that we are SO ready! I’m so EXCITED to finally hear this from a doctor. I feel like this has been such a long road to this point. I mean, deep down, there’s that part of me that still thinks we can do it on our own, because we did on our own 2 years ago, but then I look at his numbers and know it’s a slim chance and that we can’t waste any more time. It feels so good to finally be able to move on to the next step. Like there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. I’m so excited I can barely contain myself at work! So today I’m calling my doctor to get the referral and as soon as I get that, I’m making the appointment!  Does anyone know how long of a process IVF is from the point I’m at, assuming it’s successful? I just keep wondering when I’ll finally be pregnant. Is it safe to guess January?
