RE consult
We met with our RE yesterday, the previous cycle was done while DH was deployed so it was nice for him to get a chance to go with me this time. My RE was very happy with how my body responded to the meds my last cycle (minus the cyst I developed after), hybrid cycle of Femera and Bravelle injections. I still only had 1 egg, the same as I had previously taking Clomid. We asked if there was anything extra we could do this cycle since this is #5. She offered to allow me to do a 100% injectable cycle with the knowledge that if I respond too well, they will cancel the cycle. So we are trying to decide what path we want to take...hybrid cycle or injectable only??
I am leaning toward the injectable cycle just because I am desperate for something different! But I'm also terrified of over producing and having the cycle cancelled and/or possibly getting OHSS (my RE said that was a possibility). What would you ladies do?
We also asked about how many more IUI's before we move to IVF. She said that they usually suggest 4-6 failed IUI's before moving on and since my first IUI was technically successful we are at #4. So I guess we are just going to see what happens with this cycle and then figure it out after.
We are also at a standstill with the donor situation. When we first found out that we would need to use donor sperm, we bought 4 vials in hopes that we wouldn't need to use them all and have some leftover for baby #2. Well, with no baby yet we are out of sperm and need to order more. However, the donor that we chose is no longer available! It was such an emotional process, especially for DH, picking a donor and the thought of having to do that again is just awful! So that is something we will be figuring out in the next few weeks.
It's looking like IUI #5 will be taking place around the 2nd week in April. I will be finishing the current pack of BC I am on and once AF shows, probably at the very end of the month, we will start this cycle!

So glad to see an update for you Lindsey! Personally, I would do the injectables. I wanted to be a little aggressive in our treatment though. Is IVF possible between insurance and what you guys owe? I am so sorry to hear the donor is no longer available! I am sure that is already a stressful decision on who and to have to do it again ;-( Please let me know if there is anything I can do or if you want to talk! :)
Thanks Nikki! IVF is not covered by our insurance, from what I have heard. I honestly haven\'t really looked into yet because we have been so convinced that IUI would work :/ The other problem is that our clinic right now is at a military base where everything for IUI\'s is free...which is amazing! IVF there would cost roughly $5000 however, they don\'t have the ability to offer IVF using frozen donor sperm...so we would need to see a civilian RE. I think we would probably try 1 more IUI after this if it doesn\'t work and then we\'d need to move on. I appreciate you being there for me! Thanks :)
So many hard decisions are involved with IF! I\'m sorry things seen unclear. I guess I\'d say levee it hybrid if your re is happy with your response and you are getting an egg each time, tough call though! Praying it becomes more clear and that this next cycle is the lucky one!! Xo
Hey hon . thanks for the up-date! I would try the injectable .. just because it would be different and to see what happens. The best advice that I have gotten during my own fertility battle is to always be willing to try new things and that has really paid off and if you produce to many eggs or God forbid get OHSS then at least you will know how your body response to injectable then you can adjust your cycle protocol. Sorry your donor is no longer available, hopefully that means that there is a better match on the horizon, that is what happened to us! Best of luck with your up coming cycle!! XO
So glad to see this update Lindsey. I have been thinking about you guys. I\'m not familiar with the injectables and a IUI is that to make you realise more than one egg to increase chances? It\'s diffrent to over here. I\'m sorry about the donor this was our fear too with starting a fresh but we have been lucky so far that there still is some avaliable. At least DH is here with u to make the decision. Please don\'t forget that if u ever need someone to chat with in similar situation my hubby and I are always here. I\'m really wishing and hope long for u guys that this is it. Is your DH home for a while now?
Thanks everyone for your input! I am not 100% decided but I think we are leaning toward doing the injectable cycle. I\'m just so desperate for something different! I mean it was nice to add in the Bravelle the last cycle with my Femera but still only 1 egg. And yep Melissa, the injectable only cycle will hopefully make my body produce more than one egg, in hope that just 1 of them fertilizes. I\'m not sure how many they would allow my body to produce before cancelling this cycle...we are not trying to be Jon & Kate plus 8! But if I could just get 2 eggs and double the chances of all 4 of my failed cycels, I think thats what we want to do.
We hhave decided to wait to look for a new donor until our cycle is a littlee closer. I think we both just don\'t want to do it :/ It\'s just such a pain and so mentally and emotionally draining! Melissa, so glad yours is still available! I can\'t wait to hear how everytthing is going with you! And yep, thankfully the hubs should be home for at least a year! He is hoping to switch his job in the Army to becoming a recruiter and that will make him non-deployable for 3 years!!
I am so excited to see you are trying again. You and I will be on a similar schedule. If everything goes as planned we will be transferring on April 16. If it was me I would probably want an injectable only cycle too. You will be monitored close enough they should be able avoid too many eggs from developing. I wish you guys lots of luck deciding on a new donor. That was the main reason we decided on IVF our donor was out of everything except ivf vials. Can you call and be placed on a wait list in hopes that someone returns some before your next cycle.
