Ramblings, and the frog bowling ball

I just thought I needed to let some things out, about what happened the past 3 day weekend.  On Friday I took Miles to the local high school football game.  He got to hang out with some of his buds, and I got to watch a halfway competitive game (and people watch).  I seen a couple of people I knew, and they asked how I was doing.  You know, the usual small talk.  Nothing dramatic or awkward.
On Saturday morning, I decided to get up early and meet the running group in El Dorado that is training for the half and full marathon in Wichita this October.  This is the same program that I helped with last year, except we were training for the half only at that time.  Miles needed to run this weekend for his cross country, but since this group started at 6:00 am, he wanted no part of that!  It was nice to see a lot of the people that I had trained with.  I told everyone that I was taking it easy for the day, because of my foot.  As it turns out, I way overdid it.  I went 6.6 miles.  The route we ran goes below the dam of a lake, and then up and around the corner.  I should have turned around when I made it to the dam, but the weather was great, and the sun was just about ready to rise.  I decided that I wanted to see that over the lake.  It was beautiful.  The sky going from a violet, to blue, to pink, to orange; and the water reflecting it all.  It was then that I checked my GPS and noticed that I was 3.3 miles out.  Oh well, the heel hurt like crazy that day, but the soul was recharged.
Not much happened Sunday.  Just church, and then some yard work.  I started to miss my Melissa hard that afternoon.
On Monday I promised Miles that we would get out and do some things together.  We started by going to a movie.  It was kind of funny, but right before it started, he asked me how long it had been since I went to a movie.  That got me thinking, it was with Melissa about a year ago, at the very same theater.  A sad feeling washed over me for a bit.  After the movie we decided to go bowling.  The alley right by the theater had a Labor Day special, all you can bowl for $9.99 a person.  I asked Miles if he thought it would be weird it we brought his mom's frog bowling ball (my wife collected frog things), and used it every once in a while.  He thought that would be cool.  So that is what we did.  It was a little rough unpacking her bowling shoes, and placing them next to our street shoes.  Maybe it was a reminder that no one can fill her shoes.  Miles and I are not great bowlers (except on the Wii!), but we had fun.  The frog ball was a hit with the little kids on the next lane, and it made it feel like she was with us.  Just for fun I told Miles that I was going to bowl an entire game with her ball, even though the finger holes were all wrong for me.  Call it what you want, but something happened that game.  It turned out to be the highest scoring game of the day for us.  The ball was finding the right spot almost every time.  Miles even threw it a few times.  He would get 8 or 9 pins, and I would get the spare everytime, or else we would get a strike.  I think there were only 2 or 3 open frames the whole game.  We wound up rolling a 181!  That may not seem like much to some people, but for us that is pretty good.  Miles and I think we need to start a tradition of bowling on Melissa's birthday, with her ball.  Who am I to argue after what happened yesterday?  I think I'll post a picture of the frog ball this evening, in case anyone would like to see it.  Thanks to anyone who has put up with this rambling!

Tim, you are a lucky man indeed. Your weekend was packed with life, man. You took your son to a football game. What\'s more loving than a dad and his boy going to \"the game\"? You got up before the crack of dawn, and ran with God to check out His sun as it rose from the stillness of the dark and shown itself over the reflection of one of His lakes. Oh, the majesty you witnessed. Your body was beat but your living soul was nourished. On Sunday you honored the Lord in His House, and then you tended to your own house. On Monday, you took your boy to a movie, in a place familiar to you and your Melissa. With a sad heart, you and your son decided to hit the bowling alley, and with you missing your wife, and he missing his Mom, you guys included her in your outing through the magic of her bowling ball, magic that brought smiles to children\'s faces and points to your bowling score. Father and Son were with their wife, their Mother just as surely as they were with each other. What happened with you and Miles this weekend was LIFE. And the spirit of Melissa joined you to fill you with her love. And nobody can argue with that, including you, my friend. I am looking forward to seeing the \"frog ball\" and my ears are eager to hear more of your \"rambling\". Like i began THIS rambling to you, you are a lucky man, indeed. Thanks for sharing, Tim. Your story made this old man\'s day........Joe....:-)

Tim -- I loved your story especially since my husband was a bowler. What a wonderful tribute to your wife that you will now go bowling on her birthday and use her frog bowling ball. I\'m glad you and Miles had a good day.

Tim,
Hope your foot feels better soon,I drove my truck 6.6 miles this weekend..LOL
I think that was so cool bowling with your wife\'s ball like you did and I\'m sure she had a little to do with the 181 game. I know what you mean about her empty shoes sitting there that\'s very sad.....Hope to see the frog ball pic......John
