Ramblings

Can you feel claustrophobic in a vast, empty space? The sheer weight of the surrounding silence and loneliness is crushing me. I'm deafened by the echoes of my own cries, bouncing off the blank walls, unanswered. I want to talk to a friend, but I don't have any. Then I want to talk to someone around me, but I realize that no one is nearby. So I decide to text someone. But who would I text? I would just bother them, I’m not close enough to any of my contacts to reach out with an unsolicited “I need help” message. I could go online, maybe to a chatroom or a forum and find some comfort there. I log on to see countless others describing situations more hopeless than mine. Is there really room for my voice here? Too much effort to write down what I’m feeling to complete strangers. I want to talk to a friend. I look around. The emptiness closes in again, suffocating me. That’s what it feels like. Being smothered by a lack of substance. How can you scream that you’re choking? How can you tell someone you’re alone?
