raining for the passed few days//dinner at k's//pink cupcake ornaments//culinary school info

its raining outside and rained a lot last night.   had the heat on for the past few nights, even though its fairly balmy - there is a chill at night.   cleaned out one of the bedrooms with murphy's oil soap.  have a lot of that to do.

bought a "pink cupcake" ornament, that would be a piss for a white or pink christmas tree, full of pink cupcakes, like the nutcracker.    they have the cupcake ornaments at walmart and they are already almost sold out.

had dinner at k's.  my schedule is weird lately, so i'm turning up whenever.  had bourban cocktails and forgot to bring in the cookbooks.  found a bunch at one of the sales.  also found cotton knit nautica sweaters for all of them, k, j and b.  had lots of veggies which is what i need and salad and watched inspector gently which was good.  its interesting because its set in 1964 and all the laws were different back then - its FIFTY years ago.  i hate to say this, but it seems long ago, but not that long.  seems like it should be 35 years ago.  which of course is me.  i guess i stopped in 1998.

fed br's "colony" at the most 3 or 4 show up.  br's "kittens" that aren't kittens anymore, have started filling out - gained proper weight - they were way too skinny for a really long time, but are still quirky kind of shy/friendly - no idea why.  the mother was friendly?  they were born indoors.  so odd.   whatever is happening with them now, must mostly work?

the sick siamese appears well finally and is following me too much.  k's flame point is mostly gaining weight, but his favorite cat, a gray torti, stopped coming home because it doesn't like competition and the handicapped woman in a wheelchair several houses down the road pays attention to her more (this has happened before with that cat, its very spoiled).

the mother cat of the huge orange one, is still meowing for her missing son...then i realized while at rn's that i had SEEN the big orange cat around the block from k's house.  so need to go on a walk and see if i can find it.  he has had other's go missing and return only when they want to - especially certain breeds, like siameses.  this was his first orange cat, and bam its gone?    i think it was afraid of the dogs.

rn's kitten had surgery on its eye on monday.  she called to say there was blood and today there is a lot of swelling.  she is using warm compresses on it.  have to look on line to see if there is anything else to do.  haven't had a kitten with eye surgery in about 8 years and i don't remember what we did back then.

stopped at the culinary school to inquire about its  reservations (no one wants to do this) its an actual "class" and you can only eat at 12 or 5:30 and then you have to finish in 90 minutes as that is when the class ends.   its a 4 course gourmet meal (and the price is the same as red lobster's 4 course special) so it was totally vetoed.   the man says, it has to be this way because the students have to leave for their next class.  kind of odd.  could be interesting if anyone would go for it.

talked to my dad, which is rare.  he calls a little earlier now (so at 2 a.m. instead of 3 a.m. "our time" he is five hours ahead).   i think he realized.  he says that jn switched from her university and declared an aa only (which also gives her room for financial aid for a ba if she ever chooses to decide on a major that she really wants.    if she continued a ba in something she didn't want, she can't get financial aid again for another ba, so its actually smart and good strategy to do this.

in the southeast having an aa is enough for most management jobs (in the northeast its not enough).  she isn't doing this though.    she went to the culinary institute instead and wants to open something in catering.    surprised actually, because jn was an honor student in high school.    though why be surprised.    my aunt bette was an honor student with scholarships and never even finished her first year of college and became a big time alcoholic for most of her adult life.  so why be surprised ever?    life is never as it appears to be.

I\'ve never heard of Inspector Gently. Is it a movie or a TV program? I love just about anything set YEARS ago.

I know you must have enjoyed talking to your Dad. But have you explained to him the time difference? lol. If someone called at 3 am I would have been terrified wondering who died?

What\'s an aa? Sounds like jn made the right choice.

Are you saying that the Culinary school serves meals that the student\'s cook? I think that sounds really cool but I\'ve not been to a Red Lobster in YEARS so not sure of what the price is.

Hope you found the orange cat! Have a great weekend.

an aa is an associates in arts degree (a 2 year college degree).

Inspector Gently is a British police show set in 1964. Its good, but i like Inspector Morse better.

My dad isn\'t the only one to call around 3 a.m. We are alllll night owls. 3 a.m. used to be okay for me, a lot of musicians get out of their gigs around 2 a.m. and talking on the phone is a way to unwind, if they aren\'t going out...for them its like talking on the phone at 9 p.m. or something....but i go to sleep around 2 a.m. nowadays or even 1 a.m., so the 3 a.m. thing is tricky...though the other night i was out until 4 a.m. It doesn\'t occur to him at all that there is a time difference from where he is. he is up in the early morning and just calls as though its morning everywhere on the planet and of course, its not.

yes, the students cook the food and they are under the instruction of a master chef who is also the instructor. i think its cool too. but you can get a 4 course meal at red lobster for $15 when they have a special, and the school price is also $15 which people get offended by because they are just students and red lobster is professional. if they serve it buffet style there is even more competition right up the road, they have buffet style all courses for $11. the school should probably lower their price to attract more people, but maybe they don\'t want a lot of people?
