Rut

I am in a rut! I think that is what you call it. I have things to do but no motivation or energy so the longer they stay undone, the more depressed I get. I don't have much trouble getting started with work but I do with the walking. If I skip more then 2 days, I always lose something. I won't be able to go as fast, or as far, so I will be back to where I was 3 weeks ago, for example. Thats frustration which turns into procrastination. One of my biggest enjoyments in life is giving hope and encouragement to addicts who try to stay clean and sober, and for everyone else, I try to find them reasons TO try. I find it difficult to encourage myself and I don't know why. Maybe it's just lazyness.  I am going to walk my 2 miles today and get my work done. Notice I didn't say try? That's because I don't want to leave open the possibily of not getting things done! I will keep you posted. Hugs to all of you!

It isn\'t laziness to have a hard time encouraging yourself. It is actually NORMAL to be able to counsel others, to provider motivation to others, and to support others without being able to turn around and tell ourselves the same things. Be gentle with yourself. Calling yourself lazy because you can\'t figure out how to get yourself to listen to your own wisdom is just Mean. I can\'t even tell you the number of times I have said profound things to a friend to help them through something (most often it is something I have been or am going through) just to have them look at me, and ask me if I am listening too (meaning that it is good advice, and they need it, but also can recognize- better than anyone could for themselves- that it was something that was also needed by the person that said it.

And don\'t forget to reward yourself for doing what you set out to do- even if it is just taking some time to listen to your favorite music, watching a favorite tv show, or having a nice hot cup of your favorite tea.

ever notice how babies go from crawling, to walking, and then a LOT OF TIMES, they\'ll go back to crawling before they finally and permanently walk?

don\'t give up Bob, what you\'re going through is normal. it\'s healthy. eventually, you\'ll have all the tools you need, at hand, and things will start to level out. don\'t forget also, that as much as you like to help others and support them, sometimes this support may very well come in the form of YOUR GOING FOR A WALK. when others see that you have problems, yet continue to take care of yourself... that can be an awesome support and boost of encouragement in itself.

whatever you do (or don\'t do), i\'ll always be here for you. we can sit and be lazy togehter.

btw, no one ever died of laziness. LOL

love ya,
Jo
