Quickie
Good news to update. This will be short (for a change!) cos it's 2:30am and I desperately need sleep, but I wanted to share before I forgot again.
1) Offers finally came in on our house. We took the one from the people who also wanted to rent it (as is!) until the sale went through. DONE!! This means we will not have to be paying for two houses at once, anymore, and we actually will make a tinsy bit of money, which is good, I sort of went Ikea-wild. (Will post pics later.)
2) The evil demon spawn son of mine who has given me nothing but grief and attitude for the last, oh, 16 years (ok, maybe not REALLY since birth...) is starting to be more mature and tolerable. He still has his moments, but wow, he actually apologizes (sincerely) now and sometimes will think about the consequences of his nasty attitude/words before they surface. He's really close to getting his driver's license and with the change in attitude, I feel like he's genuinely ready to take the responsibility on.
Along those lines... an issue came up with school (won't bore y'all with details) and he started down the bitch and moan path, then the blame game path, but then when I said, "You're two years from being on your own and having to solve your own problems. Solve this one." So he did. I am satisfied with the outcome, even though I'm disappointed he got himself in the tangle in the first place. But we all get into tangles, don't we?? Even as adults. The key is getting yourself out, ya know? (And yes, hopefully avoiding the same tangles in the future!) I'm proud.
3) Huz got official word. HE GOT THE TRANSFER... and not just to his #2 choice... but to the #1 choice. We knew he'd for sure be able to get the #2 choice, but there weren't any official openings in the other office, so we knew it was a long shot. We also knew that there unofficially were slots open so we kinda were hoping someone somewhere would see that and throw him in the spot in anticipation of the upcoming need. YAY!!! Right now he's working 3 hours away. When he actually starts at the new office he will be 7 minutes away! WOOTYWOOT. I was so thrilled to hear that.
4) His current office is very eager to get him moved to be with his family so they are very willing to let him stay on the books there at the old office and work here at the new office until the Jan 1 "official" transfer assignment date. The office here should be pretty happy to have an extra warm body, so I don't see them complaining about getting someone in, but it still means all the proper procedures and paperwork being pushed through. Still... it could be as early as Oct. 1. Only a few more weeks apart. YAY.
5) We managed to find a new doctor for the family. I really, really like her. So far? Both kids had colds that went into sinus infections (yay...sigh) so I was frantic at trying to find a new doc and most weren't taking new patients. I actually asked at one office if the receptionist had any suggestions and she was taken quite off guard (but what the heck... why not ask someone who works within the medical field - seems like they'd know best!) and her recommendation was just perfect for us. We're very lucky since they are in the process of bringing in a new doctor and changing things up (really, it sounds like super good changes, in all) and as a result they were hesitant to bring on new patients, but they squeezed us in and all is well, for now, at least.
There are more updates... some less good than others. I don't feel like dragging down this otherwise super positive post with them and it's nothing we can't deal with, so... onward.
Hope everyone else is well.
I do think moving was the best thing we could have possibly done. I was reluctant and I still have sad pangs over losing the house I had thought to grow old in, but it's just a house. Houses can be replaced. People... not so much.
