The grapes for this wine were sourced from one of the original plantings of Riesling in the Porongurup ranges of Western Australia’s Great Southern wine region. It’s a pristine place, long cool summer days and ‘mean’ gravelly soils that slowly ripen the grapes to produce wines of intense flavours. 400km or so south of Perth, you’ll find our home, estate block and winery.
The Wine All fruit is harvested by hand and fermented spontaneously in a combination of stainless steel and open-top wood fermenters. The Wine It was with this small parcel in Maranges that the winery started out in 1998. The Chateau Lafite Rothschild Australia oldest vines in this vineyard, located on the lower slo... Deeply coloured, with a nose that evokes small red fruits (wild strawberries, cherries, raspberrie... Warmer weather doesn't need to mean that you neglect your reds!
Discover Vin came about after working in France for 6 months in 2009. The founders lived in Bordeaux and tasted lots of great wines from the south west regions of France. Upon their return to Australia, they found that wines from many of these regions were not available in Australia and so they set out to remedy that. They generally seek out smaller producers, who take great care in their vineyards and subsequently produce exceptional wines.

Treasury Wine Estates today announced the global launch of the Truvée brand, taking a non-traditional approach to brand marketing to capture opportunities for growth in the wine category amongst women aged years. Treasury Wine Estates today announced the launch of A’tivo, a refreshing new Australian ‘aperitif’ that is created to be enjoyed over ice. A’tivo is designed to drive category growth, by providing lightly spritzed varietals that are ideal for capturing opportunities when consumers seek refreshment. Treasury Wine Estates today announced it has become a signatory to the “Porto Protocol”, a global forum and commitment to sharing best practice in helping reduce the impact of climate change. Today, 19 Crimes, the first winery that used augmented reality to bring their labels to life, continues to disrupt the market and announced a multi-year partnership with Entertainment Icon, Snoop Dogg.
Situated in the Great Southern region, 360 kilometres south of Perth, Ferngrove Wines is one of the world’s most isolated wine estates. While this isolation makes the logistics of winemaking tough, it is also what makes Ferngrove wines distinctly different. If you want to know what reds are most highly revered, it gets a bit trickier... Pinot Noir, especially French Pinot from Burgundy, has a massive reputation, especially the Cru stuff... Bordeaux, especially the first and second growths - these wines are made up of some combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere. There are plenty of articles espousing the benefits to gut health and cholesterol from the judicious ingestion of red wine.
This does not mean the palate as a whole is irrelevant for Burgundy. The finish and aftertaste are as important as the bouquet. While pinot noir has far less tannin in its skins than cabernet sauvignon, and is lighter-bodied, the palate is long, and the flavours expand on the finish and aftertaste.
The wine is multilayered, deep in colour and full of black fruit flavours, allied with touches of spice and pepper, and high-quality new oak. The style has a lot of similarities with Australia’s best known shiraz, Penfolds Grange. This is perfectly balanced, medium bodied wine with bright plush fruit, silky tannins and well-defined acidity which gives a long, refreshing finish. The nose has violets and black fruits and the palate has loads of forest berries, a touch of dark chocolate, soft tannins and refreshing acidity.

Fermentation temperatures normally range between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius. The wines are rarely fined and only occasionally filtered. The few white wines produced at this domaine are, with the exception of the Aligoté, fermented and aged in small barrels with a minimal use of new oak. The climate and terroir of Champagne is, of course, unique, as is the 200+ years of experience in making the wine. It may be blanc de blanc (100% chardonnay), blanc de noir (100% pinot noir), a blend of chardonnay and pinot noir or a blend of chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier (usually for non-vintage). The Champenoise have invested more time in visiting all the markets of the world than any other region of France has, and their hospitality in receiving visitors to Champagne is legendary.
