Putting a tack in the wall with a sledgehammer
I finally got through the 2nd waiting list to get my daughter into a psychiatrist in order to get her medication managed.
Six years ago, I got a therapist for my daughter, and for the first six months or so, after the prerequisite three month waiting period, she seemed to be doing well. But that therapist diagnosed the girl with Reactive Attachment Disorder, and that diagnosis changed everything.
She recommended a "new program" that her facility was offering that would send someone to our house for between nine and twenty-five hours per week. When I object to the intrusion and disruption that this would cause, she started tougher tactics in order to get me to accept this.
I did a good deal of research on the condition, and had my doubts about the validity of the diagnosis. The therapist would brook no argument, and the tactics grew more and more intense.
Those tactics involved the school and attempted blackmail. After a heated argument with the woman, where I told her that I was the parent and she was the tool I needed to use to help the girl, not the other way around, I fired her and got a second opinion regarding the girl's condition.
A full evaluation was done, and the diagnosis was invalidated. The school had their psychologist do an evaluation, as well, and she agreed.
So, today, within a few minutes this arrogant condescending little woman throws RAD back in my face and tells me that she wants me to have someone come to my house and get the girl into an outpatient set up, etc.
She talked right over me, did not listen to me - so much so that she would not let me finish sentences, interrupting me so that there was no way that she could have understood what I was saying to her, then said that she would only work with me if I did exactly what she told me to and would not even order refills on the girl's medication, which was the only reason that we were there.
She said that it was dangerous for her to put in refills for the medication.
I think that she is dangerous. She made up her mind about the condition within minutes, without any kind of evaluation, and would not be shaken from her egotistical opinion that she and only she should be in charge of the girl's life and parental units are of no concern.
I stood up, apologized to her for wasting her time, and left (with the girl) as quickly as I could remove myself from the building. I've posted on Healthgrades to reflect my experience.
