PT: Two days after

It's Saturday. I had PT on Thursday afternoon and I wish I could write that it made me feel wonderful. I will relate my experiences honestly and with genuine hope for my recovery over the long haul. PT starts, for me that is, with 20 minutes of heating pads; my choice of light on or off, and music if I want it. I choose to do the heat in silence with the light on...no chance of falling asleep, and prayer throughout the session. It comforts and relaxes me for the rest of the PT. They then enter, remove the heating pads and I have seated massage, deep tissue to assist in moving the muscles from my fusion back into place, and now to also relax the taut muscles from my cervical surgery on my neck and shoulders. I have two spots of sharp pain on the shoulders and she will press on those, hoping to relieve the inflammation and pain there as well. This takes another 20 minutes overall. I then get dressed; I came prepared to swim, so only have to put my swim top back on..saves messing up my full suit with the massage creme. I will be walking in a 90 degree pool. I've done this post lumbar surgery so know what to do. I wasn't sure if there'd be more exercises but they are obviously taking a conservative approach with me. I  will walk forward, then backward, 5 minutes for each. Then, I will walk taking shoulder length apart steps, sideways for 10 minutes. I will shower and prepare to leave. All in all, I plan for 2 hours total at the facility due to the possible wait between each session if staff is low or busy with others. Bring a book like I do, it helps with the wait. You can't afford to be stressed or angry during this part of your healing process.
Aftermath: good word! I experience more spasms, though I KNOW my sessions will relieve these completely. I woke stiff and sore today, two days post session, wishing I could be massaged to relieve the tightness in my back and shoulders...sigh...can't go back until Tuesday. I walked yesterday, a little faster than my usual stroll. It felt good to do so. I noticed I am also faster in the pool than I was my previous round of PT. It was a good feeling and a sign I am stronger. I am also experiencing my nemesis this afternoon, upper chest spasms. Those babies can make me scream. I have a chest press type of stretch I do to relieve those, praise God!! will be doing my stretches shortly.
Hope this helps others as they undergo their own therapy or anticipate what will occur there. God bless.

Good positive information. PT isn\'t easy but worth all the effort. I love what you say about not being angry during the healing process.

You are on you way.
