psychiatrist

I took my son to his Dr. appointment yesterday and this was the first time he went in by himself because he's now 18.  After the appointment he came out with another prescription.  It was a non-stimulant ADD medicine called Strattera.  I've known of this medication and had asked the doctor awhile ago if he could take it.  Dr. didn't think he was ready for anything at that time.  He is the same doctor, however, who wanted to put him on a mood stabilizer for the bipolar he didn't have.  Only spending a short time with both of us he had a diagnosis.  Actually, he told me he needed to be put on it as a preventative measure.  It didn't make sense to me because of what I've read.  I also contacted my other son's former psych doctor for advice on that he said if my son appeared to be doing fine (which he was) he didn't understand why he would prescribe it.  Anyway - my son said that the doctor asked him if he was still smoking and he said yes.  So - that was when he prescribed the Strattera - T told me that this medication would help curb his smoking cravings - including helping him with his attention.  T said he will not take it.  He doesn't have a lot of confidence in this guy.  I can understand why.  I figured he could just go to appointments to renew his Wellbutrin and then leave it at that.  I may snoop around and see if I can find someone else.  Haven't heard any great comments about anyone around here.  So - we'll see... Oh - my PowerPoint - I am kinda stuck - as I'm trying to improve it - it's getting more complicated.  Frustrating.
