PROTEIN BARS--GOOD FOR WEIGHT LOSS??
While crash diets are usually not the best idea, my view is that for a few days they won't do ya any harm. Was tired of not seeing the scale move much. Also frustrated with cravings and hunger.
Nutrition Express.com has a catalog with a large variety of protein bars. They vary significantly in price and nutritional content. I wanted a large meal replacement bar and planned to go several days eating a bar for each meal, with a lot of water, coffee with skim milk, or lemon juice between meals.
The idea was not to be tempted by "real" food that makes us want to eat MORE of it. The bars tasted so lousy that it was a "positive". What's for lunch? Same crappy bar you had for breakfast! What's for dinner? Same crappy bar you had for lunch! You get the idea.........
Last Friday was my first day. Then Sat. I was derailed by my sister announcing she had a coupon for JERSEY MIKE'S SUB SHOP and we were taking her granddaughter! Had a meatball sub. Had to start diet OVER. Managed to do 3 consecutive days, Sun. Mon. and Tues. just on bars.
Did it work? Hell yeah! Lost 3.9 lbs. -- almost FOUR POUNDS for 3 days of suffering! That's what I like to see! Seriously, these bars tasted SO bad I was nauseated. If I had a horse or a donkey that I loved, I wouldn't have fed it to them! But desperate times call for desperate measures.
The company is Nutrition Express. The brand of bar that I ate is Chef Jay's Tri-O-Plex. Flavor was Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, moist and chewy whole grain bar. They make it sound delicious, don't they? There is 30 gms. of protein and 6 gms. of fiber in each bar, plus good fats.
I wouldn't advise this for more than 3 days, but it sure jump-started this old lady's metabolism!
For those of you who are religious, consider this verse:
I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST JESUS WHO STRENGTHENS ME.

I ordered some of the bars
I also pray to cope
Great effort and great weight loss! Will you do it again in say one month?
Well done, I was thinking about something like this, if I ever get really stuck. Take care of you and drink plenty of water coming back out. :)
Yes, Joyce, I will do it again. More bars are on order. In the meantime, I\'m trying to continue low GI and keep calories at 1500. The bars, with all their fiber and protein were definitely low GI--no problem there! Kellie, let me know when you get your bars. We can be buddies. Wishing faery, I always get my water. Wonder I\'m not floating! LOL
When I started only eating 1200 calories of delicious nutritious food on March 9.. I lost 5.5 pounds in 2 days. After 144 days I have lost 51 pounds. The problem with using meal replacements is you aren\'t getting into the habit of eating lo fat, lo sugar and starch, hi fiber, hi protein, hi vitamins and minerals foods. You haven\'t changed your eating habits to maintain the weight loss. All I have to do when I lose another 19 pounds is add more calories of healthy food to maintain.
It\'s easy getting it off compared to keeping it off.
Maybe you get get a different flavor and they would taste better. I am thinking about trying that but maybe with something I can find in the store and that tste good. I really need a kick start. I did go on a all protein diet once and lost really well. I only went on it for a week and it was to shock my blood sugar back to what it whould be. It worked but I also fell nauseated. I think it must be all the protein.
Different strokes for different folks!~Thanks for the input. :)
I\'ve lost 26 pounds the last several weeks by replacing normal meals w/ Wonderslim protein bars...they are yummy and have lots of varieties...good luck with your continued sucess!
