Promise
The Gift of a Promise by DVS
In this life you will receive many things. However in my opinion the most valuable thing you could ever get, or give is a promise kept. How many times in your life can you say that someone has kept a promise they have made you? How many promises have you kept? There is something so vastly comforting when a sincere promise is made. Not a promise because you want something but a promise from the core of a persons being. What else has more value than that type of sincerity? We have all been victims of broken promises. And for the most part I am sure we have all broken promises made. To be able to believe in something, that's what we are all after. A real without a doubt truth. Have you ever found it? Better yet have you ever given it? Many times we want things we ourselves are not capable of giving. Scary thought right???? A promise is a selfless act of commitment to a statement that you will always abide by.... if we really think about what that means, it can be a bit deeper that what we truly imagine. Take the phrase i promise to always love you... believe it or not that could actually be true. Even if that person has done horrible things to your heart, you may still love them. That doesn't mean that person will always be in your life. Making a promise like I will do everything to make this relationship work, on the other hand is a bit more difficult to keep. What if it's all you??? You give, and give but you receive nothing from the other side? What then? Do you keep your promise? Or is your promise contingent on how the other person treats the relationship??? Lots of ifs... I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you know what it's like to have a promise broken, don't make one you would break. The sad reality is that the most important promise is the first one you make to someone. If you break that one, why would they believe in any other promise you make.
