Prognosis of results on knee

Summon to my Doctor’s office Again Current mood: focused  Remember a few weeks ago, I went to my Primary Care Physician in order to discuss my skin condition and my left knee. He sent me for bloodwork to see if my cortisol levels were normal or not. Also sent me for an x-ray on my knee which as been sort of get paralized for a short while, and it scares me, so went for both tests.  Within a couple of days, the receptionist at my doctor's office, called me and left a message for me to go in the next day in the am. Of course I didn't sleep all night, then got up at usual time, 5am, got ready and went on my way. Once there, I kinda figured it was my cortisol levels he wanted to discuss with me, but no it was my knee. The prognosis is, my left knee as ostioarthritis, with tinning of the medial tibiofemoral joint compartment evident on these non-weitht bearing views associated with subchondral sclerosis and mild spurring.  There is spurring of the tibial spines and patellar margins.  OPINION: EFFUSION. MODERATE OSTEOARTHRITIS.SOLUTION: KNEE REPLACEMENT How this has happened is, I had two car accidents over the years, and both times my legs and head were injured. Then two years ago, I had another accident, but this time it was on my 600 Grand Touring snowmobile. I will now explain how the snowmobile left me walking with a cane for several days.OK we were 4 machines, my hubby with his 700 Polaris a machine for speeding. Then myself with my 600 Grand Touring. Our daughter with her 500 Polaris, and my son with his 700 Yamaha and my grandson was with his Dad. Snowmobiling in our days, isn't going on tour to look at the scenery anymore, it use to be like that, we would crewse at 40-50 miles an hour, but now the machines are set up to ride fast. If you don't ride fast, then you lose the others in front of you, and of course me I don't see anything from far, so I always follow my hubby and he drives really fast... That night, we had stopped at the Sugar Camp, just to smoke a cigarette and take a break, and talk a bit about the long ride we had just done. So I decided that I was tired of getting the loose snow that had just fallen, so it would hit my windshield and I wanted to go first.   SMART ASS, lol. So my daughter and I started our machines, and left before the boys, at one point the snow started to fall again when we left, and I had a hard time to see, no having put on my contacts, so I missed a steep curve, and jumped a 10 foot ditch, never touched the ground and I'm still flying away there, but the problem is I'm way out of the trail, flying in the bush, the branches of the trees, hits my face, about 30-35 ft into the bush, I finally hit a small tree the machine flips I rolled with the machine, lost my helmit, finally everything stopped but the machine was on me, and my leg was side ways, which is why my knee where it hit, and of course the weight of it all, I managed to get it off me, but I was really in pain. Having asthma, and just the paniky feeling, I couldn't talk or scream. My daughter finally got to the curve I had missed and she didn't see me ahead anymore, so she knew the trail way better than I, and realised that I had jumped the ditch and that I must be somewhere landed in the bush. I could hear her, crying and shooting for me, all I could do is try to get a shoot out of me, but I was so much distraught, and paniking. Finally the boys came along, and they were running. I can still see my son, arrive near me in tears, "are you ok mom?"  They then brought me to one of the machine in order to sit me there, until they could get my machine out of the bush. I was in total pain, my grandson drove my machine back to my son's house which was closer than going to my home. When we got there, my father was notified ..... Anyways the rest if history. One thing I should mentionned, the next day when they went to see where it had happenned, they saw that I had missed two big trees, Imagine I went right in between them without even seeing where I would land. I think Angels were with me that night. At the speed I was going to have hit one of those trees, I would have killed myself. So my knee was severed once more and probably did most of the damage, it has today. The government won't do a knee replacement on a person under 50 years old, so I need to wait until then. In the meanwhile I will definately study the matter, and get the best possible artificial knee. At this time, the knees they have, only last 10 years if your lucky. So at the age I am it will probably mean that I will need a couple of knee replacement from here to the time I died. Next journal entry, Had my appointment with my skin specialist. Mckenzie

Dear Mck
This is all rather hectic for a middle aged woman - might I suggest you take up something more sedate - such as ultralites, base-jumping, bungee jumping, or plain static line leaping - at least there are no trees up there! I have a knee just like that - sometimes it just collapses on me; hence the walking stick. I\'m supposed to get a MRI of it - but this Dr. is so slack, I cannot be bothered - he does a Law Degree AFTER his medical qualifications!. That says to me - either (a) He hates being a bone specialist or (b) Don\'t You Dare Sue Me! Not happy with him. I do hope you all slow down-you don\'t have a death wish, do you? (Besides, soon you won\'t be able to afford the fuel for them). I hope you have been taking good care of your skin:( I fear the next entry!) I\'m so boring - only ever fell down a flight of stairs in a chocolate factory - but it did give me petit mal epilepsy! (the fall, not the chocolate!) Fond regards JaneD.

Thanks to all of you darling friends.
Now you all know how I am, I have a problem no matter how bad it seems, I
need to deal with it, as soon as possible.
I\'m afraid I might have to wait a year or so, but this will give me
time to get informed, you know the saying; \"KNOWLEDGE IS POWER\", so
I need ot do my research and get the best possible knee created. I
have a good insurance, so it\'s just a matter of getting the best
of the best.
Thanks again Mckenzie one day at the time

Holy moly...that was scary! Sorry you need knee replacement but glad you weren\'t hurt much worse!!

Your knee problem is probably past any alternative treatments helping but I have a chronic painful hip (something I was born with) and I get some relief from a topical cream called CASTIVA. Have you ever heard that? It was suggested by a doctor who writes newspaper columns. He also suggested drinking a mixture of Certo and purple grape juice which helps some people with arthritis. You can google both of these. They might help get you through until you can have surgery.

OH my goodness Mckenzie, I\'m so sorry it took me so long to respond to your journal. I\'ve been crazy busy and just getting on to read mail and hugs. I never knew that you had gone through something like this. What did the doctors say. And when will they approve the knee replacement. I hope that you don\'t have to suffer with it too much longer. God bless you dear, I\'m here if you ever need me. Oh my I\'m just trying to imagine what you must have felt at that moment in time. Scary!! Love and hugs to you...Joni

holy moley. surely angels were protecting you. wow. i have a friend in her late 40\'s and her ins won\'t give her a knee replacement either b/c she\'s too young. i don\'t get it, shouldn\'t it be based on need rather than age, but i guess that would make sense, then wouldn\'t it. hoping you can find something in the mean time to help. hugs...anna
