Preparing for my thyroidectomy

My surgery is Monday, Sept 13. I am preparing this week by taking Lugol's and a very low dose of PTU (25 mg daily). I have also been taking a high dose of Vitamin D(50,000 units weekly), Vitamin B12 (5000 mg weekly), Vitamin C (1000 mg daily), andCalcium (1000 mg daily) as well as magnesium (300 mg daily). I have been reading on visual imaging and visualizing the healing after. I have also had a swedish massage this week plan to have a hot stone with swedish massage on Friday as well as have a manicure and pedicure on Thursday with reflexology. These are my ways of relaxing that I usually do over a period of months time and am doing it in a week's time. I read that it's good to relax as much as possible. I also plan to listen to relaxing music (spa music) when I go under if I am allowed.....

Good luck! I hope all turns out well. Why have you chosen to have the thyroidectomy if you don\'t mind me asking? I\'ve been so sick lately, after 6 years of PTU that I\'m starting to rethink my options and a thyroidectomy is definately on my thoughts. I can\'t wait to hear how you are doing after and read about your journey.

Hi, I chose the thyroidectomy as I knew from the beginning I did not want RAI and it was absolutely not an option for me. That was my decision before I even fully understood what RAI was. After learning more about it, it just confirmed my gut feeling that I didn\'t want it as I have kids and such. I opted to try to stay on PTU and shoot for remission (which I just may have achieved) but I had so many ups and downs as I journeyed along the past year and am just SO tired and exhausted. I also have a nodule on my left lobe which shows very prominent on the front of my neck and looks like a large goiter... I was told by one endo that RAI would get rid of it, I was told by another endo that it would not. I was also told by the first endo that it would go away as my levels came into range and once that happened, I was told it would go away once I achieved remission and I also did that and it still never went away. I just want some normalcy... I didn\'t realize how serious thyroid surgery is until I met with a surgeon but I know in my gut that this is the best option for me.

I love your idea of spa music and a massage. I have scheduled a massage for next Tuesday, as well as a pedicure and eyebrow wax. :) I start my Lugols solution this weekend! Monday I will be keeping good thoughts and prayers for you. I am keeping my eye (visualizing) being well, healthy and back to my normal self after this ordeal is over. We will both be healthy and happy again:) xoxo
