Post-Transfer Update

The support you ladies have given me has been amazing. I am grateful for each of you!Our transfer was yesterday and everything went well. Due to the position of my uterus, my past two transfers have been under conscious sedation. Otherwise, it’s very painful for me. So, before I got the loopy drugs, my RE gave us a report on our embryos. Honestly, I was not prepared to have the discussion and felt rather deflated. He gave us a picture of the two best looking embryos - one was described as “beautiful” and the other was “good/OK.” Then, he said “what do you think of transferring a third?” I responded, “I didn’t think that was an option due to my age (33).” He said under normal circumstances, he would not recommend it, but considering all that we’ve been through and since the third embryo in line was slower developing (morula), he thought it might be worth “pushing the envelope.” (He likes to use that phrase.)So, after I concluded that the other 4 embryos would not likely make it to the freezing stage, tears began to fill my eyes. DH squeezed my hand and said “I think we should do it - transfer a third.” We discussed it some more, including the risk of multiples, and with great peace, said “let’s do it.” (Of course, that required another consent.) So, now I am PUPO with THREE! To my surprise, I got a call today from the clinic and we have TWO totsicles. After yesterday, I didn’t think it was possible. I am so happy. Having a “plan b” is icing on the cake.I am not naïve to think I have perfect embryos. Actually, this has been quite a learning experience. My first fresh IVF cycle (another RE) was a 3-day transfer. So, we had no idea how well our embryos progressed past day 3. My current RE only does 5-day transfers and I support his philosophy that if they do not develop well in a controlled environment, they may not develop in me. Knowing the slow progression of these embryos, I am now more concerned about the quality of my eggs.I refuse to let negative thoughts in my head. Here’s hoping I have great news to report next Thursday - beta day! Thanks for keeping me positive.

It all sounds really good to me. I understand your concerns, but you have 3 little embryos snuggling in right now and in a few years (or when you are ready) you have their siblings waiting. BELIEVE! :)
