Post Nerve Conduction Testing
Today, technically yesterday as it's the middle of the night and oh crap, forgot to take my meds again. Be right back. Okay...whew! There we go, as *hippyone* says, make sure you've got your meds "on board". I liked that...kinda like a cruise. Ha ha.
Yes, I sound chipper. I feel a little better than I did earlier and this time the doctor didn't plunge needles into my spinal column.
I arrived at 8:15 for an 8:30 appointment. They were surprised that I had actually filled out the mailed packet. Why on earth would I want to do it there? I tried to find a seat and did what I call a Goldilocks but to no avail. The seats were too soft for my spinal fusion so I stood with my back against a wall. I was called up to pay my co-pay and waited for the evaluation. In no time at all I was in to have my reflexes tested, to describe where my pain pathways travel, walk across the room for them, raise and lower arms and legs to show strength and document my experiences since my last visit. I saw a pain chart on the wall and realized I live at a 7 daily and only medicate at an 8-9 level. 10 is fall down screaming for an ambulance.
Next up was the hurry up and wait phase of the appointment. I had prior approval for this nerve conduction test so when they said it was only for a consult I had to gently speak up and disagree. I was NOT returning. Oh yeah! there's the referral...same sheet in their hand by the way. I was asked to wait in the waiting room with the poor seating. By this point, my husband was asleep in a chair and I didn't want to wake sleeping beauty so I went in when called by myself.
I had two sections of testing done, one with electrodes and one with needles, on calves, feet, thighs and hips. It was, thankfully, not performed on my back this time. Oh, and I had to pay more for the privilege, several hundred dollars more. Be aware, this pleasurable experience has been brought to you by your insurance company.
There was chatter about femoral nerve damage, right side damage when my left is most painful, problems at thoracic and upper lumbar areas despite nothing showing on my imaging and talk of possible permanent damage. I love it when they talk amongst themselves. When I left the office I was dragging my left leg more than usual. Oh joy! I know, sorry about the sarcasm.
I am experiencing nerve pain running down the backs of my arms, pain localized in my upper lumbar and my feet hurt badly enough to make me limp. I am tired but insomnia has kicked in. I have no idea when the results will be in but I do return to my primary care doc on the 30th. I'll keep you updated.
I arrived home to discover my neurosurgeon had not yet put in a renewal for my Gabapentin. I had asked the neurologist office to fill it please, which they did and luckily for I could be laying on the floor in a seizure by now without it. I don't know what is going on with their offices. I have trusted them with my life and now....well, I just don't know what to say. I refer many people to them but a surgeon may be awesome and skilled but his office staff reflect on him unfortunately. I don't want to go anywhere else, suspecting it's only worse. I knew the new health care system would be deadly to patients, I just hope I'm not going to become a casualty.
Note to self and friends: Check your meds today, see the dates and the renewals. Make an emergency appointment if you have to to get them renewed, especially if the side effects of withdrawal include possible seizures or death if you miss more than one dose. Please don't do what I've done and neglect your own care. You are to be the responsible one here, not your doctor for he sees hundreds of people just like you and me and can't keep us all straight, nor should he or she have to. There, my soap box speech is over. I'm tired, hurting and need my blankie and my tea. Night dear ones, you know who you are...much love.
Shout out to hippyone for your love and kindness to me today.

I always get copies of all my tests. I know when a gastrologist ordered a catscan with dye, I never heard a thing. I went to the hosp and picked up a copy. There was results about severe DDD and once growth on my ovaries. In guess it didn\'t concern that specialist so he didn\'t care. I found a new gastrologist,
I hope you have a painfree day. I understand the fear, but stay positive and think if the good things in life,
