Post graduation blues
Well, I haven made it past my first major hurtle, since begining my weightloss journey...My beloved son graduated high school last Sunday, and the following day he had orientation at his College. They had a meeting for the parents as well, since his dad passed in 2004 it has just been him and me, and my adopted child Frankie the cat....I managed the graduation and party with dignity, didn't break down, but, I lost it when I found out at orientation that move in day is August 30th, as classes begin on Sept 1, I became really , really, sad and a bit depressed, it took me a few days to somewhat snap out of it, but, I didn't feel the need to go crazy eating, didn't even want to. Instead, I got a little crazy and went out and bought some little brothers and sisters for the cat for when my son is gone....I bought and aquarium and filled it with fish...I have had them in the distant past, on my way home, I wondered what the heck I had done, cause I was drivng by this store I drive by about 100 times a day and had never given it a thought. So everything is set up, everyone has names, and I realize, this is my first step in filling what will be my empty nest syndrome, but, also, as sudden a decision as it was, it was better than going out and buying a bunch of food I would not and could not eat. So hopefully in some strange way, this is how I chose to cope with this situation !!! I don't know if this if good or bad or what the heck it is, but, I feel okay with it !!! I hope this will be one of my positive diversions as I love all animals and fish and wild life, I just don't have the space I use to, to have more four legged friends !!! Besides , I think Frankie is already a little preturbed about the new additions...LOL...!!!

Congrats to the Grad. Good for you.
I\'m sure that was an emotional day with Dad not there. My Son graduated University 2 years ago and my father and his baby sister were the \"supposed to be there\" pair of the day. (I believe they were there in spirit, but it\'s just not the same, is it?)
I\'m sure Frankie will love the new additions to the family, perhaps with a little parsely? :) Hope the tank has a good top.
One thing to mention, I have to watch my shopping habits. It\'s a little easy for me to hit the stores when I\'m bored or upset, maybe like I hit the fridge before. I\'ve read about transfer addictions, and we want to watch out for that.
No lecture, just something to keep in mind.
Again, nice job getting the kid through school, and I\'m sure you will find new ways to fill your time and share your talents with others, perhaps walking the dogs at the local shelter?
Thank you for the Congrat\'s...I am so proud of him....it is difficult to not have those important people who are gone ,to be there for the special moments in life. Luckily many other Family, Friends and teachers celebrated the big day with us !! I made sure the tank has a good top, as I don\'t want to find out that Frankie has been eating fish sandwiches while I am out. (LOL) . Your right about the shopping habits and transfer addictions, we were taught about this at my classes at the hospital...I know it was an impulse purchase, but, the first in a very long time, hopefully the last for a while. Interesting that you should mention the shelter, I volunteer at an animal shelter and also a pet pantry...thank you for taking the time to offer some words of wisdom !! Niki : )
