Post-Christmas Blues....

Sometimes, it's easy to feel sorry for yourself and this past week was one of those moments. I got in a fight with my mom (right after Christmas) and it threw me into a 2-day period of depression and restlessness. *sigh* I don't know why after being hurt so many times she still has so much power over me - it's terribly annoying. You'd think I wouldn't be bothered much by it now, but it really made me upset this time. We all hope for happy holidays, gathering around the table in laughter and warmth enjoying each others company. But that just isn't reality. My parents are screaming at each other over the size of a slice of pie to cut, my husband looks like a whipped dog wanting to make a run for the door and my mother returns every present I buy her. My in-laws aren't much better. They are strict vegans and instead of agreeing to disagree, every get-together seems to orbit around the idea of health and such. I'm a size 14 and like cookies... clearly I'm not in the 'cool crowd'.  My only sibling lives literally on the other side of the planet with a 14hour time difference which makes even a phone call a chore. And to top it off, my hubby and I can't have kids on our own. So, in short, my parents are totally dysfunctional and a visit with them usually results in a tiff, or general feelings of malaise. Honestly pouring lemon juice on a paper cut would feel better. My mother-in-law is about as warm and loving as a cactus, and I have no kiddos to love of my own. At least I have the hubs.... he's so sweet and we have a wonderful marriage. There truly is something to be thankful for in every situation. I just thought with this sappy entry, if anyone else reads it, will understand they are not the only ones that get a little depressed at Christmastime! ;)
