Positive Update
I've tended to only write in my journal when I'm having a not so good day but I'm breaking that habit today! It's not that I had such a great day or anything but I no longer have awful days! I spent some time reading about negative thoughts and how to change your thinking about situations in life. I also have been reading about how to be grateful for whatever you have be it grand or small. Between reversing the negative voice in my head and being grateful for even the smallest things I've managed to keep depression at bay and basically eliminate anxiety! Don't get me wrong, I still have times that I feel sad or not so happy about life but they only last a few hours. My depressed moods would last months if not years! I think the problem was once I got into a depressed mood my natural negativity would kick in and just keep adding fuel to the fire. Now that I have been actively controlling those negative thoughts and replacing them with positive it's more like throwing water on the fire!! I also spend a few minutes of the day just thanking God and being grateful for what I have now. Bad things will always happen and life will never be perfect but events mean nothing in and of themselves, it's how we look and perceive those events. For example if my windshield cracked my negative self would say "This sucks! That's just my luck! Now I have to get this fixed and it's going to be a hassle and blah, blah, blah!" but now my positive self will say "At least I had a windshield! Otherwise that rock would have hit me in the face! I'm sure the insurance company can send someone out to fix it..." sooooo much better and then it's forgotten. When I would get myself all worked up I would think about it constantly until the next negative event happened. I never took a break from negativity there for I was always miserable!!! I am confident I can continue to improve on the whole positive thinking process and avoid falling into the pit of depression once again........
