Porta-Cath Installation

I had my porta-cath installed today. This required surgery which went very well – it look one hour. I have the ‘bottle cap’ under my skin, on my left shoulder about an inch below the clavicle. They had to use the jugular vein, instead of the vein the typically use (I forget the name). This is because the standard vein was too narrow. I did the surgery under ‘managed anesthesia’ (sedation and you are breathing on your own) instead of general anesthesia. The anesthesiologist gave me the choice; I went for managed since the recovery is so much faster without grogginess. In fact, my wife and I went out for breakfast at the Good Egg directly from the hospital. I was awake for the last 10 minutes of the surgery, there was a small (4 inch curtain) blocking my view of what they were doing. I was taking to the nurses and doctors.As the local anesthetic wears off I am feeling some pain when I turn my head. I took one pain pill (the doctor sent us home with a prescription) and am feeling better. This will require surgery for removal.Next stop - Chemo Day 1 Treatment 1 (of 12)
