Bio-polyols from crude glycerol can be obtained by thermochemical conversion process. Luo et al. , have suitable properties for the production of PU foams, e.g., hydroxyl number of around 481 mgKOH g−1. Sorbitol is a polyhydric alcohol monomer, which can be used in the polyols and the polyesters synthesis, and contains primary and secondary hydroxyl groups. Isorbitol can also be directly used as a polyol in the synthesis of polyurethanes .
At the end of the quarter, the POLYOL for interior molding prices in Germany and Netherlands hovered at USD 2780/MT and USD 3845/MT, respectively. The Polyol price trend showcased bearish movement throughout the first quarter of 2023. In the H1 of the quarter, prices fell amid depressed orders from Polyurethane industries due to surplus availability of supplies. During the mid-quarter, Supply chain activities improved with the temperature rise. At the same time, increases in Federal Reserve Interest rates throughout the quarter to curb rising inflation made the buyers conscious while making purchases. Consequently, at the end of Q1, prices declined further amid sluggish offtakes and reduced cost support on feedstock Propylene Oxide costs after the successful start of LyondellBasell’s Propylene Oxide plant at Channelview Texas, with a production capacity of 470 KTPA.
The invention relates to the technical field of high-quality utilization of new chemical materials and biomass, in particular to a preparation method of starch-based polyether polyol. As one of its raw materials, polyether polyol has been widely valued by people. The development of new products has become an urgent problem for manufacturers.
As shown in Figure 9, we found that reducing the tan δ of the resin in the foams has a positive impact on the resonance frequency shift in our fundamental studies. The latter approach is related to enhancing the viscosity of the foam by reducing air permeability through the cell structure. Therefore, a combination of these two approaches is effective for improving the vibration characteristics. In particular, the enhancement of elasticity is of great importance in the design of a desired resin composition. As shown in Figure 10, another fundamental study concerning the effect of PPG compositions on the viscoelastic behavior of foams revealed that tan δ of the resin tends to decrease as the primary hydroxyl content of the PPG is increased. We assume that high reactivity and fast viscosity buildup in the foaming process derived from a high primary hydroxyl content contribute to the formation of fine and homogeneous phase-separated structures of hard segments and enhance the elasticity of the resin.
Moroi and co-workers82,83 highlighted the possible catalytic effect exerted by metal salts on the pyrolysis of poly(ester-urethane)s. In particular, copper and chromium salts accounted for the best catalytic effect, favoring the occurrence of thermal decomposition at lower temperatures, but, at the same time, stabilizing the intermediate pyrolysis products. Conversely, all the other metal salts, despite an improvement in the thermal decomposition of the polymer, were not able to stabilize the intermediate degradation products.
Commercially available are also glycols, which constitute second monomer taking part in the polycondensation reaction during polyester polyols preparation. Bio-based glycol with the highest global usage, the first widely available in the industry, represents such bio-based glycol as 1.3-propanediol . Currently, these compounds are obtaining by the biotechnological processes through the corn fermentation by such microorganisms as a fungi, yeasts or bacteria [10–13] or fermentation process based on the glucose, sucrose, dextrose and biomass sugars , respectively. Other bio-based glycols commonly available constitute also bio-based 1.4-butanediol (bio-BDO) and ethylene glycol (bio-EG). It is well known that the petrochemical-based components have more impurities, which consisted of the different chemical compounds. The different contaminants can lead to the other reaction mechanisms during the polymer synthesis; therefore, it is necessary to find the contaminants impact on the polyester polyols synthesis pathways.
The oligomer polyols, with a weak polarity, forms soft segments, which yield the elasticity and low-temperature properties of the PU. PU with different functions can be designed and synthesized simply by changing the content and synthetic raw materials used for synthesis, such as polyisocyanates, polyols, or additives. The results of this work demonstrate that recycled polyols can be successfully incorporated in low-density flexible polyurethane foams by carefully tuning the formulation and selecting the appropriate tertiary amine catalyst. Based on these promising findings, the next step will target the production of flexible polyurethane foam with an even higher level of Repolyol, ultimately aiming to fully replace the petroleum-based raw materials in certain products. Long-term characteristics will be studied, as well, to evaluate the changes color, chemical structure and mechanical properties.
The decline in exports mainly occurred during the year or the year after the investigation was initiated, with trade volumes showing recovery in the subsequent years. In some instances, import volumes in the following years exceeded the levels seen before the duties were implemented. This is likely due to cost advantages among major producers from the top exporting countries, allowing them to offer polyether polyols prices at more competitive prices compared to domestic producers.
The supply of Polyols further tightened with reported shortage of feedstock Ethylene Oxide due to issues prevailing in Shell’s Moerdijk cracker and other upstream outages heard across the region. Higher Polyol prices in Asia made European Polyol producers optimistic over enhanced export demand to Middle East. However, slow recovery in the downstream automotive sector affected the quick revival in the European region. In the North American region, Polyol experienced a bearish price trend during Q4 2023, with prices declining due to low demand and sluggish manufacturing activities in the Polyurethane segment.
In most case, the Zn 2p3 and Co 2p3 spin orbitals were deconvoluted into two singlet peaks, except for the Zn 2p3 spin orbits of DMC-DEP and DMC-P3. The surface chemical properties of the DMC catalysts were investigated using XPS . The obtained spectra were calibrated to the C 1s core level peak at 285.0 eV, which corresponds to adventitious carbon on the catalyst surface. The observed peaks were located at 1021.9–1042.6 eV , 781–783.3 eV , 531.2–533.5 eV , 398.2–399.6 eV , 285–286.6 eV , 198.5–199.7 eV , and 133.9–134.9 eV .
The chemical structure can be simply described as a series of –CH2CH2O– repeat units. A noteworthy trend in the polyether polyols market is the focus on enhancing the performance characteristics of polyols to meet evolving industry requirements. Manufacturers are investing in research and development to create polyether polyols with improved functionality, such as enhanced reactivity, lower viscosity, and extended pot life.
