PMDD & Ovarian Cyst
I am writing this to help solve a riddle that every member in this group is trying to solve. Thank you all for your contributions, every discussion and piece of advise if very much appreciated.
I stopped taking birth control pills about 9 months ago, I was on a low dosage of the generic for ortho-tricycline and it was making my periods come 10 days early, I could not finish a pack without starting my period. This lasted long after the 3 month probationary period we are suggested to give birth control so that our bodies can get used to it. Fed up with periods every 2 weeks and my PMDD symptoms not really benefiting from the pill, I gave it up.
I just stopped. Shortly after stopping the pill, my acne became more severe, my periods came every 28 days but they were brutal with horrible cramps, bloating, breast pain and depression. I also started gaining weight at abnormal rate considering my caloric intake and exercise. My stomach was gaining the most weight, which is weird for me since I’ve always been more of a pear shaped women.
People kept asking me if I was pregnant and I knew that would be impossible since I was single and not having intercourse. I decided instead of going to set a million doctor appointments with my OBGYN that I would just go to the emergency room and exaggerate a bit. I got blood test, hormonal test, pregnancy test, a papsmere and STD test all in 3 hours. I also got an ultrasound of my uterus.
What did I find on my ultra sound? A cyst that is 4.1cm big on my right ovary. Not only was it just a cyst, it was a complex cyst. A simple cyst just has fluid while a complex is filled with fluid and some type of mass or matter.
Now it is said that cyst happen and they usually go away within 1-2 menstrual cycles even if they are complex. Also birth control helps control the recurrence of cyst so they say…
My OBGYN follow up appointment ended with my doctor looking at me as if I was a whinning winch and he basically said lets put you back on birth control asap and wait two menstrual cycles before we do another ultrasound to see if this cyst just goes away on it’s own because you too young and the cyst is too small to rule out a surgery to remove it at this point.
It’s been one menstrual cycle so far, I have one more to go in September, then as soon as it’s over I will have another ultrasound. I will keep you all updated.
Cyst further exaggerate PMS symptoms and can cause even more cramps, bloating, breast pain and depression. It especially can cause weight gain. Please ask your doctor for an ultrasound. Most people with PMDD are prone to Ovarian cyst.
Be it simple or complex, just knowing they are there will allow you to be proactive!
A complex cyst that does not go away after 2 peroids may need a biopsy or removal for further evaluation. What could this mean? From the research I’ve gathered;
Endometreosis
Dermoid Cyst
Ovarian Cancer
Polycystic Ovarian Disease
Major Hormonal imbalance.
